Re: On the Philosophy of Conservatism

If conservatives in America had not been forced to change their unprogressive ways, of segregation and gender inequality, America may very well have ended up in a revolution like that which is now engulfing the Middle East.

Re: An Introduction to Introduction to New Realism

I notice that New Realism, a European based philosophy, doesn't include the extraordinary amount of refuges coming into the continent. Shouldn't that be part of it?

Re: On the Philosophy of Conservatism

The author, Musa al-Gharbi, is involved in Middles East studies. As a whole the Middle East is a conservative place. That is probably why his interest in conservatism. Musa al-Gharbi must appreciate the fact that at the heart of the conflicts in the Middle East is its conservatism and its resistance...

Re: An Introduction to Introduction to New Realism

It's probably newspeak bullshit, spike. This New Realism does have the whiff of bullshit. But even bullshit has its morsels of substance, founded on existing stuff. This bullshit has familiar human noises, that of integration, emergence and social constructs. Overall I thinks this philosophy is a l...

Re: An Introduction to Introduction to New Realism

I read this introduction slowly and carefully and I don't get it.

Where is the New Realism? Has it got something to do with the new realities the world is facing today? Perhaps it has to do with the narratives we construct to explain those new realities.

Re: Impractical Pragmatism

Tesla, On first reading your response I didn't think we were on the same page, that you missed my point about pragmatism. Then I thought about your reference to education. Then I thought some more and realized that education was born of a pragmatism, of educating people in a practical sense so that ...

Re: Impractical Pragmatism

Above I quoted this: radical change could hardly be effected by pragmatists . There is something to that statement. Consider the Middle East and the civil wars occurring there. This regions desperately needs radical change but pragmatism won't work there because that approach has never existed or be...

Re: Experimental Philosophy

I just used the topics to play around. I don't think I used humour in particular. I just used it like the other elements as means of discovering something more interesting than the articles offered in the magazine. And as I said , I feel underwhelmed by what I have been reading. Sometimes I find tha...

Re: Analytic versus Continental Philosophy

These two camps of philosophy make me think of the two camps in politics, conservative and liberal. Conservatives tend to be in the analytical camp because they think in reductive, noumenal terms, whereas liberals think in more complex, phenomenal terms .
