Re: Can art be repulsive?

Cheers duszek, I don't know much classical but reputation suggests that Chopin straddled the visceral and deep. Summertime was originally a lullaby for Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin so it was fairly populist, which of course is no reflection on its quality.

Re: What Life Meaning Is The Most Valuable?

There's widespread worry about the effects humanity has had on the rest of nature, which is understandable. Change is always difficult because we are obviously going to be most adapted to the conditions with which we're familiar. It does seem oddly bleak for those living in perhaps the safest and mo...

Re: What Life Meaning Is The Most Valuable?

Yep, people and other animals, especially those living wild. As I've said a few time on the other forum - modern middle class and wealthier humans are probably the luckiest creatures to be born in the history of the Earth. There's not a single situation I'd prefer to the modern age. I'm happy with m...

Re: Is dumbing down a resume legitimate?

Yes. There's no point giving employers reasons to cull your application. Same with age. If employers are less likely to hire you due to age discrimination then why not lie if you look young for your age? Usually, no one ever looks as impressive as on their resume. I'm fan of testing for many positi...

Re: What Life Meaning Is The Most Valuable?

Life is incredibly hard. We are all born clueless, screaming and vulnerable, and eventually every single one of us will be cut down - unable to take that next breath. Somewhere between these events we might find meaning. To me, there is nothing more meaningful than the fact that somewhere around 14...

Re: Can art be repulsive?

I found the forms of Guernica beautiful, as I do with most of Picasso's work, just that the subject matter was grim. Art is supposed to stir emotions and ideas. Maybe for the artist the work is cathartic, an opportunity for expression. At other times art is intended to affect viewers or audiences, m...

Re: What Life Meaning Is The Most Valuable?

Physicists generally agree that life doesn't have a purpose, the universe doesn't care what we do, if you will. This allows us to choose our own meaning or not choose a meaning at all. I'm not sure if a sane life is possible without a meaning. Maybe it's another discussion. If everyone can choose t...

Re: We are not this Body

Maybe the soul isn't necessarily very powerful, or maybe people suppress their souls to greater or lesser degrees? Maybe it's not a matter of compulsory engagement? Also, why would a soul have to be part of God? That's all rather grandiose - surely being part of the Earth would be plenty enough? Not...

The soul is here to learn.
Learn what?
What do you think?

If the soul is part of God, would it not be more powerful than our minds or our ego? How can our puny ego take command over the more powerful soul which as you say is a part of God? Is the ego more powerful than God? The soul is here to learn. Just as water flows down every crack in a path, life fi...

Re: Where is "here"?

Leo, I've waited to see how things played out with raw_thought but it's circular. You know a lot more about physics than I do, so I find your claim about space confusing because even after all this talk I cannot conceptualise your model, and the only other time I've had this much trouble is with Rob...

Re: How to truly Love God

An interesting thought flashed across my mind. The thought was how to truly love God. And the first thought that came to my mind was that the only way to love God was to stop loving everything else. Many spiritual leaders do that. They renounce everything else; they renounce all people, they renoun...

Re: Where is "here"?

My dog is the same dog today as she was yesterday not because she is physically composed in the same way because she simply isn't. These kinds of conversations happen because reality is inherently paradoxical, where multiple realities coexist depending on scale, be it quantum, molecular, insectoid,...

Re: ~ Our Lives in Fear ~

Yes, but how to be rid of anxiety on better than a sporadic basis? It's one thing to know there's nothing to fear, it's another for all your conditioned stuff to dissipate. Reprogramming takes more than awareness, it takes real time practice over an extended period and the progress is not always smo...
