Re: This site doesn't promote philosophy

Philosphy = love of wisdom There are no wisdom to be found here, only nonsens and babble spewed from glaringly ignorent people or madmen who put fairytale nonsens in the science they'r read. Please make a new section where we can put all the babbleheads, so they may spew their prolific brain diahri...

Re: Is volunteering for the military potentially unethical?

As for Schop - you miss the point about desire. He never did try to escape from it. He was a complete hedonist, and simply made himself bored of it due to the fact that he was an utterly selfish p**** with no concern for anyone but his own pleasure. It's no wonder he made himself bored as hell, whe...

"Not subject to armed aggression?" Germany's 1940 invasion of Norway comes to mind.

Re: Is volunteering for the military potentially unethical?

I'm quite sure Marx was well aware of Schopenhauer. I'm not sure about Lenin. What part of Schopenhauer do you think they missed. And do you think that Schopenhauer's philosophy is simply a matter of fact that they simply have to accept? What I think was misunderstood (or more likely disagreed with...

Re: Is volunteering for the military potentially unethical?

You sidetrack the dicussion with arbitary arguments, stay focused. Can you muster a counterpoint, or is this the best you can do? It might be a bit difficult to "stay focused" with your desultory mumbo-jumbo, but I'll give it another shot. Let's start with my rebuttal of your statement &q...

Re: Is volunteering for the military potentially unethical?

In any other profession you can quit when you disagree with the orders. Even for unconventional and illegal professions like drug dealing? Sure, you can "quit," but you'll soon be dead. Informal 'orders' can have some very dire consequences when broken. Apples to oranges argument? Maybe, ...

Re: Is volunteering for the military potentially unethical?

Gentlemen, The disdain you all seem to have for one of our oldest and most refined professions alarms me. The properly disposed military is what fundamentally keeps us safe to play on the internet and enjoy our back yards without fear. Some of the finest people of the best character who have ever l...

Re: Is volunteering for the military potentially unethical?

...the real peacemaker is trade. What's the easiest way to acquire goods? Produce them? Harvest them? No. The easiest way to get stuff is to steal it. Just ask the Spaniards; they let the civilizations of South America mine the gold, gather the silver, and once the hard work was completed, stole it...
