I thought xenophobia was the irrational and intense dislike of people. I don't thing that being proud or prejudice necessarily equates with...

Re: Thinkers Against Xenophobia: How To Deal with Pride and Prejudice

vegetariantaxidermy : Japan seems to manage pretty well. There's nothing wrong with protecting your own culture and values system. There is a difference. The Japanese arrive at and make their choices collectively, about their culture and values (which are not imposed with a 'stick'), through democr...

My opinion is that MaxHammer is obnoxious in his comment. But maybe I am wrong, that in fact he is.

Re: Thinkers Against Xenophobia: How To Deal with Pride and Prejudice

I watched the BBC documentary "Order and Disorder" and thought of Xenophobia. The documentary, narrated by Jim Al-Kalili, is about energy and the science that explains it - thermodynamics. Now, if there is a theory of everything I would say it is thermodynamics . Thermodynamics delves into...

Re: Chaos & An Unpredictable Tomorrow

Recently we have had a ringside seat to Chaos & An Unpredictable Tomorrow. It was supplied by the coup in Turkey. The coup generated chaos in the lives of million of Turkish citizens. It compounded the chaos and unpredictability that had been building up for the last couple of years, this time w...

Re: On Being An Existentialist

The most famous Existentialist in the world at the moment is Donald Trump. He is extending his hate and pessimism all over the place. One could easily slip in one of his existential puddles. In fact he often extends like a dog, but with far less thought.

Re: Thinkers Against Xenophobia: How To Deal with Pride and Prejudice

When you think about it most of the Xenophobia in the world exists in one region, the Middle East. Countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran do not want outsiders living in their midst. They hate cosmopolitan, open societies for fear of losing their identity and power. Countries like Syria and Yemen are ...

Re: Thinkers Against Xenophobia: How To Deal with Pride and Prejudice

On seeing this article on xenophobia I had an imaginary thought: Does xenophobia add to the chaos of the world or does it do the opposite in some pushback way?

Re: Chaos & An Unpredictable Tomorrow

Jed Bush said if Donald Trump was elected he would be the 'chaos president'.

Judging by Trump's behaviour and pronouncements if elected he would be the most unpredictable president ever.

Re: Chaos & An Unpredictable Tomorrow

I have been thinking about a possible connection between Chaos and Pragmatism. Does Pragmatism temper and harness Chaos' influence on unpredictability? For instance, Donald Trump has brought a chaos and unpredictability to the Republican party, as well as to the political discord of America. In the ...

Re: Chaos & An Unpredictable Tomorrow

One thing the author didn't consider in his article is that chaos is also caused by entropy. Entropy can and does bring on chaos and disorder to our lives big time. And this chaos is highly predictable, which for the most part we foresee and organize to minimize its effects.

Re: A reversal of outcomes

Lacewing... I like your observation about the flow . The flow thing has something to do with not always having to be in control and letting things unfold. But it's strange, looking back, in my case, how things transpired, that there was sort of a ditachment from what was occurring. It is difficult t...

Two negative things happened to me recently that ultimately led to positive outcomes. One had to do with cigarettes and the other with scaffolding. Yes, cigarettes and scaffolding. The other day I lost my keys. I lost them somewhere outside. They fell through a hole in my pocket. I traced my steps i...
