Re: Should we be afraid of Artificial Intelligence?

This is interesting because for those who are religious, you could use this 'fear' to question if some God would fear us since if it created us and allowed us autonomy, we go BEYOND its own possible means as an "art" to be admired or a function to serve something it needed us for (like ho...

Re: What are the achievements of logic?

Argue the "received view" then. I am already aware of what is available on the topic and so it serves no use to bother discussing anything if we already agree universally to some common view. Because you're looking for the Argument Clinic? I was merely informing people who might not know ...

Re: Nobel Prize in Literature for Bob Dylan. What?

I dont think official prizes as such ARE necessarily valid anyways. They just act as a means to encourage those to approach certain things in science ( more practical than theoretical ) that is not always as rewarding as other professions financially https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/o...

Re: Nobel Prize in Literature for Bob Dylan. What?

Henri Bergson had much to do with why Einstein did not receive the Nobel prize for Relativity in 1922. Bergson's influence was much greater than Einstein's at the time. His own philosophical theory of time did not agree with Einstein' s physical theory which influenced the decision by the Nobel pri...

Re: What are the achievements of logic?

It is your 'interpretation' about the interpretation of others. No, it isn't. I'm reporting the received view. Aside from that--hey look, it's a condescending, arrogant-yet-ignorant jackass on the Internet. This is the first time I've run into one of those. (Actually I wish . Sometimes it rather se...

Re: Nobel Prize in Literature for Bob Dylan. What?

Einstein did not receive a Nobel prize for his most significant theories of relativity but oddly for his theory on the photoelectric effect. Re: Should we be afraid of Artificial Intelligence?

It just dawns on me that the term "Artificial" in "Artificial Intelligence", it begging. If it becomes sufficiently intelligent, should it no longer be considered, "artificial"? It means it was created, not naturally ocurring. If we were explicitly designed by God, the...

Re: Should we be afraid of Artificial Intelligence?

I don't think AI will take over. The fact is that, if AI becomes self sufficient, it will outlast us even if it is entirely cooperative with us, even if it works to help us survive as long as possible. We are fragile biological beings and the Earth will eventually become uninhabitable - for biology...

Re: What are the achievements of logic?

I responded from your previous post to relate to this interpretation of yours in this one. It's not an interpretation (of mine). It's the received view. Logicism failed. It is your 'interpretation' about the interpretation of others. That you default to trust them by faith just makes me discredit y...

Re: What are the achievements of logic?

If logic is the foundations of mathematics then what are the foundations of logic? It can be argued that logic is intuitive, in the sense that it is the necessary foundation for all thought. That doesn't make it true, it is simply necessary for us to think in the way we do. We literally cannot thin...

Re: Should we be afraid of Artificial Intelligence?

P.S. on my last post: That particular plug is used for our 250 volt appliances (double the regular 125 V). Do you guys use this voltage as a norm? It might explain why you guys don't use the same convention. [maybe because 125 V at the socket with a common current doesn't easily kill while 250 V at...

Re: A world without privacy.

TSBU, I can't make sense of HOW you are speaking. At first I thought I was misinterpreting you but it appears that you MUST NOT speak English as your native language. It also appears that you don't interpret English the same way either. So you are relatively novel or are possibly using some transla...

I agree. Let's nominate everyone in the world for a Nobel. For the 'least noble', we'll grant them the Nobel Prize for just being lucky (or unlucky?) to still be alive.

Re: Nobel Prize in Literature for Bob Dylan. What?

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 has just been awarded to Bob Dylan "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition". Isn't this the flag on top of the hill for mass culture? Aren't the gentleman's achievements a little bit overrated, overblown in the...
