Re: The Contract/Covenant With God
If God changes the terms of the contract, then the believer has to accept the changes by entering into a new or revised contract and the old contract is null and void. Any all-powerful-moral God would not change the terms of the existing contract agreed upon. Btw, do you agree a true believe must e...

Re: The Contract/Covenant With God
If there is a 'contract'/covenant then there must be agreed terms to the contract to be observed by both parties and neither party can change the terms of the contract unless both explicitly agree to the changes. If God changes the terms of the contract, how do you know... and how do you hold him l...

Re: A knot of sexist logic in the Western mind
Lacewing , you are right: you are dealing with a very stubborn man with pretty fixed opinions -- I do change them, but not very often, and probably not in the direction you would like. It has nothing to do with "the direction I'd like" -- it has to do with you being too intoxicated with y...

Re: Why is racism so villified in the West?
And what about Roseanne losing her job because she said some woman looked like a monkey? I really don't get that. I don't think the woman looks like a monkey and I don't think it's terrible to say that she (or anyone) does. So what? It's just one person's opinion/insult. Seems like an overboard rea...

Re: Sex Is Huge in Heaven
So sex is for pleasure... and not just procreation (which would be unnecessary in Heaven). If sex and pleasure are good and a worthy activity in Heaven, then that should apply on Earth as well, yes? So why are there so many rules against it on Earth? And why is an unmarried woman who likes/uses sex,...

Re: Do you think it odd that your God never acknowledges you? Is that rude?
True to some extent, in person, as then body language can give some of the information you speak of. In a forum, that does not exist or apply. You don't think it's possible (?) to recognize these kinds of things (I've listed above) in the repetitive writings of people, and their patterned behavior ...

Re: A knot of sexist logic in the Western mind
It would be interesting, Duncan, to hear what you think women are supposed to be? Where do they belong? What should they be doing? What are they capable of? It’s not that I don’t believe there is some truth in the patriarchy, toxicity, male dominance narrative, it’s just that I believe it is overwhe...

Re: Communication by Words
So in reality it seems people talk at each other not with each other because words have different literal and emotional connotations for those seeking to communicate. It depends on the people, don't you think? So it isn't what you say that is important but rather how it is said. Aren't both importa...

Re: A knot of sexist logic in the Western mind
Lacewing, can you see what you have done? Yes... and I rather enjoyed it. :) Do you see what you have done? You believe in the patriarchy, toxicity and male dominance Yes, I see that truth in life. Do you see it too? I believe in sex-denial, a sharp tongue and female dominance I can see that too, h...

Re: A knot of sexist logic in the Western mind
I would like to propose that the following narrative has tied up the Western mind to such an extent that we can no longer think clearly about the relationship between the sexes. Please see if you go along with it. It sounded out-of-balance to me from the start. And the CONCLUSION of bias against me...

No it's not. I was simply making a point -- I don't view it as extremely as you apparently need to in order to make your own convoluted point.
Uh huh, whatever.

Re: Do you think it odd that your God never acknowledges you? Is that rude?
There is great value in discussing people and what they do and why. It can reveal limitations, agenda and motives, as well as skewed logic and information. Understanding a person -- recognizing their blindness, fear, patterns, and intoxication -- is a huge asset in determining the value and clarity...

Re: Do you think it odd that your God never acknowledges you? Is that rude?
Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people. Eleanor Roosevelt Perhaps this quote had value in the context/time it was used. But it's not some sort of blanket response or ultimate wisdom -- as no quote is. There is great value in discussing people and what th...

Re: Looking Forward
Thank you for your response, Randy. Hopefully my response will not be exasperating for you -- such as, if I ask something that you think you've already answered/concluded. I have a lifetime of seemingly naturally thinking philosophically about all sorts of things... yet I've never studied philosophy...
