Re: Free Will vs Determinism
Does one subscribe to a form of determinism which is reductionist? Then the appearing "actions" of appearing "agents" are reducible to the bumping around of particles which are much less likely to encourage the observer to think of agency and action so much as ongoing reactions. ...

Re: Sex vs violence
This is especially the case in America, which was settled by puritans bent idealizing armed individualism in the new world. Violence=good. Sex=bad. It's not some kind of fundamental of human nature. Many advanced less violent nations do things the other way around. In northern Europe, sex and nudity...

Re: Relativity, Negation and Atomism
Interesting to compare the idea of a "missing ether" with hidden variables.

Re: Relativity?
I read the section 'how does time work?' and I have a question. If stickgirl is on an embankment and stickman on a train, wouldn't stickgirl see stickman's light-clock take an extra distance? If so, would the reverse also happen for stickman looking at stickgirl? Or not? I think not, because if I'm...

Just never look up the crimes of essentialism. That'll give you quite a chill !GreatandWiseTrixie wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2017 3:57 pm The crimes of the Chinese are too evil to mention, and I don't want to ruin your day.

Re: Muslims/Mexicans Are Taking Over
I heard this statistic the other day on the radio. "There were almost twice as many terrorist incidents by right-wing extremists as by Islamist extremists in the U.S. from 2008 to 2016" I expect you'd better do a fact check on that... Compare with this: https://i.imgur.com/4AxipAy.jpg Tho...

Immanuel Can wrote: So the common-sense position is to believe in the power of will, and the burden is on the Determinist to prove all that is mere delusion, without jumping wildly to the supposition that Materialism is true, but proving it instead. Good luck. " the common-sense positio...

Re: Relativity?
Here's an interesting implication of SR that I'd never heard of before asking about it in a forum a few years ago: A train is going by one person, at a high % of the speed of light. The one person on the land is holding his clock by his face. Throughout the train, by the windows, watching the man a...

Re: Free Will vs Determinism
Raising presumptuousness to a fine (and finally exhausting) art form: But even supposing some did, that would only really indicate a failure on their part even to entertain the possibility of non-physical entities existing...but would do nothing to suggest whether or not such do, in fact, exist. The...

Re: Free Will vs Determinism
Some may say that since the nature of nature is a lack of intelligence then it requires an intelligent creator to make an intelligent being. If man has agency, then it seems it must come from agency, since it makes no sense it might come from reductionist automatism. But then science only works by ...

Which is a>b, b>a, and thus a contradiction. It is not a contradiction if I think you are receding into the distance but you think I am, because neither of our perspectives is taken to be "objective". So it is with relativity, if I find your clock to be ticking slow as it travels in my in...

Re: Free Will vs Determinism
If the universe has a creator, where did the impetus come from, in the creator's mind, to create the universe? It's a odd question to pose: maybe you can explain what you mean. If God is, as I suppose, a free Agent, capable of deciding for Himself what He will do, then you would have to ask Him why...

Re: Muslims/Mexicans Are Taking Over
I'm not saying whites are perfect. God no. But jesus I'd rather be ruled than whites than be ruled by Chinese or Muslims. How about being ruled by high-IQ genetically Chinese people raised in a "white" society? That could be the Crème de la Crème, no? No. Because there is a seperate aspec...
