Re: Materialism: Self-driving experience

What if subjective and objective are not distinct “material” categories with no interaction, but the subjective is the result of the objective making contact with a sensory system. What if the subjective is an impression of the objective, within that sensory system. That subjective cannot then be co...

Re: There is no emergence

To show this consider a system with many parts each part has a set of properties. Now let’s assume that the system has a specific property. This property should not be reducible in terms of properties of parts if it is an emergent property. There must however be a reason that the system has this pr...

Re: Thinking is the ability of mind

How about an electronic circuit? The individual components alone cannot achieve the function of an electric circuit, for example, calculating a mathematical function, but when put together in the correct order they can do something that none of the parts alone could do, nor did they have calculation...

Re: Enlightened Hedonism. The truth of biological human nature.

Thanks, that was a good read, and a must read IMO for anyone exposed to today’s consumerist society. It’s a trap which people get caught in, especially young people, but also more mature people seeking that big toy to make a statement, like the newest Tesla, or a 100ft yaght, or the latest phone.

Re: Another proof of mind

But, the problem or difficulty of appealing to the first causes is, it begs the question of, if you need a first cause then surely this applies to your prime mover, I.e. god also needs a cause. What is more primary, god, or the demand that everything has a cause? What if one cannot infinitely regre...

Re: Another proof of mind

This is Aquinas argument for the existence of God which I think is more appropriate to replace God with the mind. P1 Everything in the world is moving or changing P2 Nothing can move or change itself P3 There cannot be an infinite regress of things changing other things C1 There must be a first cha...

Re: U.G. Krishnamurti, gangster guru

To a person of philosophy and reason who hears these contradictions, they tend to be alarm bells to them of some faulty logic, some error calling out to be corrected or the entire statement thrown out. Why do you presume that I don't understand? You can read my response to DAM. I get your response ...

@Lacewing To a person of philosophy and reason who hears these contradictions, they tend to be alarm bells to them of some faulty logic, some error calling out to be corrected or the entire statement thrown out. The reason why such seeming contradictions or paradoxes exist is due to the differing vi...

Re: Echoed Silence

I have felt that, complete detachment, absolute unreality. A thousand foot view. But zen proponents say, take one step from your thousand foot pole and then see how it is. Maybe you will remain that way, maybe you won’t. That which is without feeling feels. That which is without knowing knows. Hey,...

Re: Echoed Silence

Some people are like echo. They will always have the last word in an argument. Even if you tell them that they are like echo, they will retort. Finally you have to settle for silence. Not just some people but the entire Space-Time is an echo chamber of duality. When you realise this, you settle for...

Re: U.G. Krishnamurti, gangster guru

I doubt just a name is the problem. It’s also the way people are treated, as distinct entities having personal willpower and self control. To have self control means to have a self who is controlling. So this external demand of the world and society of self control essentially makes that artificial...

''There is no power outside of man. Man has created God out of fear. So the problem is fear and not God.” UG _________ UG's right of course, it's More like fear of the unknown. Notice, the human mind does not like not-knowing, and so will concoct just about anything it can imagine in the attempt to...
