Re: Scientific Paradigms are NOT true

To make the distinction full between Kuhn and myself and why my description has more use than Kuhn's beside being true is that with my theory of ICT it should be possible to determine the careful steps that lead to a successful theory in a complex picture of historiography of science rather than the...

Re: Good Translation for Plato's Republic?

Try secondary literature, of the kind that gives you reading advise? :)

It's my impression that translations (fx. Hackett?) try to be as genuine and close to the original language as possible and I guess it's never going to become easy.

Re: Best entry level philosophy books?

I've added a new book to the Logics category: The Logic Book 4th ed. by Bergmann, Moor, and Nelson ISBN 0-07-240189-3 (This book rates superbly above the logics book below. It's utmost recommended and it is beautifully educative and easy to learn from. There is also a 5th ed. out.) Cheers! :) PS: I'...

Re: New View On Induction - I'm Against Hume.

Philosophy Bites with Helen Beebee on "Laws of Nature": http://philosophybites.com/2010/12/helen-beebee-on-laws-of-nature.html . This touches directly on this theme of David Hume. I've made a comment to it (eventually approved or not by the PB-moderator): "My view is that "laws o...

Re: New View On Induction - I'm Against Hume.

"When I go to bed tonight, I can definitely rely on wakening up tomorrow without induction! It's the "lawfulness" of nature that is this way! In any case, it's the same "lawfulness" that is going to prevent me from wakening up tomorrow if anything! Thus "lawfulness"...

Yes, the bombardment... Am I supposed to laugh? :?

Yes. I don't deny the deficiencies, but you need to investigate a good deal before you uncover them. I think scientists should be more open on what they don't know in addition to what they can tell.

Re: Science, Potential-science, and Speculation

I think pseudo-science is a good category for the sake that it points out malpractice, how science is not to be conducted! I also find the case of Calory/Caloric-theory to be one of great teaching, a bad example, although scientific-practice at the time, it has lost the battle versus the competitor....
