Re: Dopson's Paradox
"This statement is not being read." https://youtu.be/Dy-4zt_ebRY?si=jgSV8TRGfN-3cel3 I managed 9 minutes, roy, and then the tedium engulfed me. :( During that 9 minutes, did he happen to explain how "This statement is not being read" is a paradox rather than just being a proposi...

Re: Why search for moral objectivity?
Why search for moral objectivity? Because moral objectivity is the best behavior in any situation. It's like knowing the best move in a game. Is that what I want? Or do I secretly just want for my own set of preferences to be the ones that everyone has to live by? I've certainly never witnessed any...

Why search for moral objectivity?
There's a lot of conversation going in circles hereabouts, I propose we point the circle the other way round for a little while to see if we can break it. So my question is not imediately one of what would make morality objective, but rather one of why we would want to have the objectivity at all, w...

Re: We need an admin to control VA
I will unilaterally ignore VA for the rest of the month. I hope you and Atla and FDP join in. I guess I can join that club. I may as well get round to finishing up my epic better-than-morality-proper-KFC-bucket and see if he is able to strangle it as quickly as he drowned the first couple of instal...

Re: We need an admin to control VA
Putting VA on my ignore list doesn't fix anything. I can ignore people like and Age and Skepdick by just not bothering to read their posts, but I can't filter out all of VA's spam threads because those are still filling up the page and choking out all other conversation, which is his cynical tactic.

Re: We need an admin to control VA
Look at what biggie has to do just to keep his moral relativism thread afloat. Things shouldn't be that bad. He doesn't have to do that. Nobody cares about what he writes in that thread. Who cares if that thread goes inactive and disappears? Ok, there you have me, I never read that thread because i...

Re: We need an admin to control VA
You can't really ignore VA … I can. And I do. Maybe you lack the will? The problem is that his endless spam threads are like a cloud of weeds that chokes out the Ethical Therory sub and automatically relegates anything that anyone else posts into irrelevance by the weekend unless it gets daily acti...

We need an admin to control VA
This is fucking stupid. Every day he posts another "what is truth" or "what is fact" and another thread demanding satisfaction from Pete.
Can he not just be forced to keep all his FSRC shit in one FSRC thread? And maybe just ban him if he can't control himself?

Re: PH Counter VA re FSRC
In the OP you quote Pete denying your motion to make him run this tedious debate over two other threads, instead he says there "This thread will do fine" . So you insist on curling out yet another garbage thread, but this time with its pointlessness written into the OP. Is your actual purp...

Re: What could make morality objective?
I posted this thread: Relativism, Contextualism, Perspectivism & FSRC https://forum.philosophynow.org/viewtopic.php?t=41979 Ultimately everything is relative in one sense, including my objective-morality in another sense. It is the same with me claiming to be a realist in one sense, i.e. empiri...

we can all have a field day calling out where there are lesions and deficits in your brain. I think we should actually be encouraging him to get a test. He could have a specialist therapist to help him find more constructive ways to engage with other people. It would do him good. Perhaps. But godel...

Re: What could make morality objective?
You need to qualify the above with " except VA's version". You also need to edit the below as such; The claim that there are moral facts is delusory [ based on my definition of 'what is fact'] ... But I have argued your 'what is fact' is illusory, therefore your above claim is false and i...

Re: What could make morality objective?
Age and other moral objectivists [ except VA's ] claim that there are moral facts - things that just are morally right or wrong - regardless of anyone's opinion. But a simple question shows why this is incorrect. The claim that there are moral facts is delusory - and can be (and often is) morally a...
