Re: Parallel postulate

By the way, PhilX, on another thread I can't find anymore -- my solution to the integral of one over the product of x and (x+1) is an inverse tangent function. My solution involves completing the square in the denominator and recognizing one of the basic integration formulas in calculus. Also a chan...

Re: Parallel postulate

Let me add this additional question: is Euclidean geometry as close as we get to a foundation for math? 🇺🇲PhilX🇺🇲 Yes...I would extend on it...but most of my posts argue this...I can extend further but I fear I would be beating a dead horse unless I reword it. My understanding is that Euclidean geo...

Re: The supernatural

Another example is "spooky action at a distance" -- two particles widely separated in space (our understanding of space) which seemingly move in sync. Is there a larger space with dimensions we humans can't experience? Your comments here, once again, are appreciated! We call that phenomen...

Re: Droll Implications of the Supernatural

Hello Mike Several quick observations. First of all consciousness and altered states of consciousness are not the same. Those seeking a conscious experience will not find it by means of drug induced altered states of consciousness. I leave it to philosophers to define the verb, “to exist”. Existenc...

Re: Will Adolf Hitler Be Saved (End Up in Heaven)?

Hitler's rehabilitation is child's play. The real challenge comes when they have to corral in Satan, Quetzaquoatl, Kali, Dalek Prime, Q, Horta, that nameless multi-appendaged death-squid on Risa III, and all their various counterparts on all the inhabited worlds of this galaxy. With any luck, each ...

Re: Probability

... Edit: It's been 5 days now since I wrote the above. Does nobody understand this? I think some of us are still trying to understand where your Y and Z are? It appears to me a more concrete example would help your readers, QuantumT. Such as, assign propositions regarding some kind of knowledge to...

Re: The supernatural

I think it's interesting how we initially ignore the larger implications when the revelations of science or the supernatural extend "reality" beyond our previous models. For example... an atom being in two places at once. Or the Hundredth Monkey Phenomenon -- whereby knowledge has been sh...

Re: Will Adolf Hitler Be Saved (End Up in Heaven)?

If human souls are part of God's substance, they'll have to be gathered up before end of time, just so God can die in one piece. Well put, Skip! And also die in "peace", knowing He or She or It is responsible for our very existence (according to Christian, Judaic, Islamic, etc. theologies).

Re: The supernatural

Let’s agree for the moment that “Reality” is limited to that which can eventually be detected, investigated, and eventually understood and explained by human science. Then much if not most of reality is still a mystery to us, and that isn’t a bad definition for “the supernatural”! There will be man...

Will Adolf Hitler Be Saved (End Up in Heaven)?

There is a strong case to be made that all human souls will eventually be in heaven with God, assuming the common conception of who God is among Christians and folks of other faiths holds in reality. An examination of the axioms and definitions at the base or foundation of a belief system can expose...

Re: McDonalds has the world's best food

The only thing that makes any of that unhealthy for you is getting too much. There is a Hungarian saying, "too much of anything is harmful to you." A Hungarian humorist expanded on that, and said, with the mouth of one of his characters, "too much of anything is harmful to you, excep...

Re: Pick the Door with the Prize!

I think you have misunderstood the significance of the long list of hits when searching for "Monty Hall" here at the Phorum. If you look at the earliest result returned, you'll find it is this post from way back in 2012. It was posted by someone you know rather well. lol Yes, I posted on ...

Re: The supernatural

Well, "exist" may be a human concept too. Seriously... our entire collection of frames of reference may be skewed and self-serving in ways that we simply cannot fathom. Thanks again, Lacewing. I believe many people think of "to exist" as an attribute of something that can be det...

Re: The supernatural

I think the "supernatural" is a challenge to us to look beyond our own limited models... which is simply all that our models can be! So if someone feels compelled to completely "blow off" all potential of the supernatural, then I think it points to their attachment to their own ...
