Re: An argument against materialism

Neuroscience has not just begun. Science realized the Correlation between Neurons firing and Conscious Experience over a Hundred years ago. And for over a Hundred years everyone was expecting that there will be some new property of Neurons to Explain it. But there is Zero, and I mean Zero, understa...

Re: An argument against materialism

That option is indistinguishable from fiction. You have no way to Explain how something like the Color Red, the Standard A Tone, or the Taste of Salt can happen as a result of Neurons Firing. These Conscious Experiences refuse to be stuffed back into the Neurons. It is highly Scientific to give the...

Re: An argument against materialism

Quantum blah blah <poof> consciousness! No. "Conscious space" is not separate from physical space, it's a subset of it. The detection of Conscious Space is completely conceivable and testable given the right point of view: http://theintermind.com/#Conceivability. But it could as you say, ...

Re: An argument against materialism

Yes its possible to declare PM / CM, but there is no way to show that CM is actually separate and distinct. You personally can experience things and see no way to connect the having of that experience to physical situations but that in no way shows that they are not. This level of reality brings us...

Re: An argument against materialism

There is no way to tell if consciousness or those quality of experience things you mention are anything other than localized phenomena arising from the material conditions where they seem to occur. We do know that reported conscious experience, and behavior, can be altered by changes to the brain. ...

Re: An argument against materialism

I'm a materialist. Only the material exists ontologically, but material includes everything that exists and has the nature it has independently of anyone's knowledge or consciousness of that existence, and therefore includes all physical entities, all living entities (organisms), all conscious enti...

Re: Gödel’s incompleteness theorem, consciousness and possible explanations

Kurt Gödel, a mathematician described a theorem which supposedly showed that: The first incompleteness theorem states that no consistent system of axioms whose theorems can be listed by an effective procedure (i.e., an algorithm) is capable of proving all truths about the arithmetic of natural numb...

Re: the easy problem of consciousness

>Why is the sky Blue? Why does the stone fall when released. Why do the seasons change? Why is grass Green? Etc. These questions can be answered Scientifically. No intent is necessary, if I understand what you are complaining about. Those are actually "how?" questions. They're a matter of...

Re: The observer cannot be observed

The first argument for the Inter Mind from TheInterMind.com: The first argument is based on an analysis of what the Visual Areas of the Brain are actually doing. It does not appear that the Visual Areas are processing the Light information with the goal of creating the integrated Conscious Light (CL...

Re: the easy problem of consciousness

"How?" is a problem for neuroscience. What's left for philosophy? "Why". That presumes/imagines intent. If you're going to make up a question you can make up an answer. Why is the sky Blue? Why does the stone fall when released. Why do the seasons change? Why is grass Green? Etc...

Re: the easy problem of consciousness

>As usual, some very nice ponderings. I still think the Connection Perspective could be helpful here. In this perspective there is the normal Physical Space, plus a separate Conscious Space where Conscious Experiences happen. The Inter Mind connects Conscious Space to Physical Space. And you know t...

Re: The observer cannot be observed

... But once again, I come back to the question. Is awareness located throughout the brain, in no particular location, or are experiences “sent” to this particular place in the brain, at which point they become aware. Or is there some in between process, a certain place in the brain uses its resour...

Re: the easy problem of consciousness

It's simply a different metaphorical understanding of the same physical stuff. They're not different things in any sense. I challenge anyone to show in what sense they are even possibly different. Positing that they are inherently different based on nothing, as you've done here, leaves you the burd...
