Re: aimless and arbitrary

Regardless in about 5 billion years our sun will have used up all of its hydrogen fuel and begin to expand into a red giant, where eventually it will swallow all the planets put to a distance just shy of the asteroid belt, then it will cool and helium fission will predominate until it shrugs off th...

Re: The Limits of Science

In christian philosophy "faith" was traditionally defined as "Belief in things un-seen." I see no egregious problem with that philosophy, stated that way. However, of recent date "faith" has turned into a delusional denial of the raw, empirical data measured by telescopes and instruments of science....

Re: The Limits of Science

We need to name the logical fallacy that goes , roughly: "Since science cannot explain X, I am now uniquely qualified to explain to you the exact nature of X." This fallacy is committed by Deepak Choprah, Bill O'Reily, Wayne Teasdale, Stuart Hammeroff, and several people on this forum. It's high tim...

Re: Secret Camp 7 at Guantanamo is Evil U.S. Hypocrisy

Since Chairman Obama took over the Federal Government through his "fraudulent" election, he has been doing nothing but "usurping power" from the American people. He has been "tearing up the constitution". And there is nothing we can do to stop them since "they" took over the courts. Soon Obama will ...

Re: Hey, You Liberals, the Power of Government Must be Limit

This thread began with a fascinating, well-written collection of paragraphs on the history of totalitarianism in the 20th century. It even attributed those ideas to the original author by name. However, about three replies in, all parties involved in this thread were trolling, attacking, and insulti...

Re: aimless and arbitrary

You make it sound like that is something to regret or be despondent about, as if you thought you or humanity in general would be happier or better off if "something" were to "happen". So I want to ask, what kind of thing do you wish would happen to the cosmos as a result of the fleeting appearance ...

aimless and arbitrary

Once upon a time, in some out of the way corner of that universe which is dispersed into numberless twinkling solar systems, there was a star upon which clever beasts invented knowing. That was the most arrogant and mendacious minute of "world history," but nevertheless, it was only a minute. After...

Re: Philosophical Debate Tactics

It is very easy to get sucked into a troll and becoming increasing intertwined in the troll's sticky web. The troll is totally aware of this. Often the troll will engage you in such a way, that retreating from the conversation will produce the illusion that he has "won" in the eyes of the onlookers....

Re: Philosophical Debate Tactics

In this article I will be describing three common trolling tactics utilized by vicious trolls on the internet. Over the years, these methods have been honed to a science. The science of trolling makes the discussion as annoying and frustrating as possible for the participants, while simultaneously s...

Re: Round Table Debate: Science versus Philosophy?

(I would prefer to have read the entire article before making a comment. However, it seems like nobody else in this thread actually read it either. (?) ) Philosophy was the traditional spearhead of intellectual activity throughout history. Somewhere in time, a transition took place where science beg...
