Re: What form of discipline should be used at home?

Philosophy Explorer; You seem to have three different topics mixed into one. As Sappho de Miranda noted, spanking in a sexual context is actually a fetish. It has nothing at all to do with discipline and only uses the idea of discipline to add context to the play. Probably the worst thing that someo...

Re: Just Plain Insanity

I saw an article on this subject just this morning. It was a video that stated that the "God particle", or Higgs boson could be responsible for the end of the Universe. Then it stated that if it happened, it would be in a few billion years. Can't wait to see it. Or for my grandchildren to ...

To a brick and dropped down a well.
I never would have considered you the book burning type -- too intelligent.

Am I missing something?

Re: 5 Questions About The Bible

1. What is the Bible? It is a book of books that is accepted as "truth" by Christians. 2. Should the Bible be read? Why/why Not? I never did care much for the "should be's", so I won't say that it should or should not be read, but I would not recommend reading it to most people....

Re: epiphenomenalism and dual aspect theory

Wyman; You are being interesting again. I think we can regard self, "I", or the subjective perspective as a group of functions rather than a physical thing. Once we start attributing unity to a particular thing then we end up in the Cartesian theatre. We only end up in the Cartesian theate...

Re: YOU Have No Value As a Human Being

Probably true that I have little or no value, but there are others:

Some create art

Some create music

Many create beauty

They have value

Clinias; Please consider my following thoughts and respond when you may. I liked your post Gee. Well, let's see what you think of this one. Since you are fairly new here, someone should warn you that moderators in this forum have a dim view of racial slurs. So if AMod, the Great God of To Be Or Not ...

Re: A Measure of Truth

The Voice of Time wrote:"Historically, culturally, technically and paradigmatically defined specifications of knowing."
So knowledge is a true reflection of historic, cultural, technical, and paradigmatic specifications? I can work with that. (chuckle chuckle)

I think you like to argue with me.

Clinias; Thank you. Your post was very informative. i always expected that I would retire and spend 20 years or so studying "The Greats", but things don't always work out the way we plan, so I settle for bits and pieces that I can pick up on-line. I envy you your knowledge and understandin...

Re: is it dual nature of the observer that collapes the wave

yeah could it be the mind /consciousness duality of the observer that collapses the wave function.as in consciousness presents the event and does not investigate its self or its presented event.the mind then seperate from the pure consciousness investigates its creators creation causing the collaps...

Re: A Measure of Truth

Knowledge certainly has something to do with truth. Never heard of false knowledge? I think the words "false knowledge" are a misnomer at best and probably an oxymoron in fact. Your idea of "true reflection of something that is real" is also pure imagination, there is no such th...

Re: Origin of Philosophy

Philosophy is derived from the nature of the cosmos. It is using the Natural Law in human thought. That is how Socrates in Plato's Republic understand that the Soul is partitioned in Three parts. And how Reason must rule over the appetites. Clinias; I may not have been able to absorb and read your ...
