Re: can men & women be friends?

what do you mean by "i let them have him" ? was he out of your league ? Perhaps SHE found someone better, and realised he wasn't worth keeping. I can see why you live in 'mom's basement'. As for the terms 'alpha female and alpha male'- can't stand them. 'Alpha' males are usually detestable cr...

Re: Why do people hate?

@chas I didn't describe a moral rule in my original comment, just parental instinct.

Re: can men & women be friends?

Actually it's quite hard for women to stay friends with women too because they are so darn competitive and bitchy and tend to run off with each others' husbands.

Re: Why is bestiality illegal?

It's an interesting topic. I was just reading about another illegal taboo, incest between consenting adults. It was a case of genetic sexual attraction between a father and his daughter. He hadn't had anything to do with her and they met for the first time as adults. The age gap wasn't huge either. ...

Re: Why do coin toss results seem contradictory?

I would like to add my 'two cents worth'. I would say that 50/50 is the figure we use because it's convenient, but the real figure is always going to be infinitesimally greater on one side or the other because of environmental factors such as how the hand was angled, sweat on the hand, how yo...

Re: Why is bestiality illegal?

I would like to say that it's because there would be no way to verify whether the animal consented or not, but I suspect the reason has more to do with religion and deep-seated taboo than any actual concern for the animal. Mares are raped by stallions in the thoroughbred horse industry and no one se...

Re: Why do people hate?

...Whereas the love for our children is straightforward; I wouldn't want to live without them so I will do whatever it takes to protect them. If they were thieves? Murderers? Paedophiles? Rapists? Etc, etc? I was referring to a hypothetical situation where it was a choice between saving the life of...

Re: Why do people hate?

I might well save a stranger, empathy is empathy, but I know that if there was a choice between saving a stranger or saving one of my children I have no doubt which I would choose. It's a no-brainer to say that we are going to favour those we love. Individuals are decent on the whole, but when they...

Re: Why do people hate?

I, therefore, put forth the notion that we also evolved into caring machines. We could have evolved both characteristics: care for those whose genes you share but show hostility to those you don't (or don't so much). Most people care about their immediate family and parents are often willing to sac...

Re: Women who run with wolves

I have finished reading this book and am wondering if anyone else has also read it and would like to comment on it. Briefly, women are likened to wolves. Cunning and untrustworthy. A wild woman is free, it is the indestructible aspect of herself, the self that is connected to freedom, we are human ...

Re: Why do people hate?

If it were true that we are simply evolved "hating machines," then why is it not everyone engages in this type of behavior? We also know it is dysfunctional at this point, and causes a lot of problems, including the occasional mass genocide. The recent shooting against the Sikhs in American, by a n...

Re: Why do people hate?

I guess we all need to look deeply and honestly into ourselves to find the answer. Does the bully hate the victim? I don't know. I've never understood the pleasure bullies get out of what they do. Hitler's regime was one of bullies, and bullies were given a free rein. The KKK are bullies. Bullies ar...

I am to start some kind of fan-club? Because you're not the only one here who insists on flattering me ^^ I usually ignore comments like that because I've always found it rather a risky business to value others appreciations, as they can quickly seize them away. Something which usually leads to peo...

Re: Postmodern Thought Crimes

I largely agree with your original premise, that French postmodernist philosophy, (Baudrillard and Deuleuze in particular), has poisoned society because most people seem to be incapable of reason or thinking for themselves. You are wrong with your reference to Holocaust denial though. According to t...
