Re: Bertrand Russell
I think we understand each other. You started talking about BR and now we have bombastic pronouncements about the state of Western philosophy. There are others on this forum that will be more than happy to engage with you in this manner but not I. Bye!

Re: Review: Rousseau's Dog
I can't see why you think this is relevant given the topic we are discussing. If it were academic it would be full of babble; hard to read; and not as interesting. There are lots of books made for a wider audience that are perfectly respectable in terms of their academic rigour; ,The Lunar Men, Ugl...

Re: Review: Rousseau's Dog
First, although the book corrects the blame - it does make clear who was taking advantage of whom (or should I say Hume?). For the implication is not only that the 'dog' is JJ's paranoia, JJ's dog is also Hume upon whose kindness and charity he preyed. Agreed. Hume is JJ's bitch! Secondly, the seco...

I'm no great fan of BR but this query is bizarre.
Can I suggest that you read the wikipedia entry on BR and then start again?

I think JJ may have overdosed on Nietzsche. There's no known cure I'm afraid.
Keep chasing that rainbow JJ!

Re: Scientific Paradigms are NOT true
It's quite astonishing that the followers of Kuhn call his work definitive when he surely haven't bothered to finish it. This is written in February 1962 and Kuhn lives to 1997. I wonder how many excuses that are going to be made on the grounds that the book is unfinished. Who are these followers o...

This is meaningless. The Copenhagen Interpretation is indeed a set of (definite) requirements to the world of physics. I think you need to get sharper, you, mister or miss!

Re: Opinions on Physics - Puzzles, mysteries, that sort...
This isn't an implication of Schrodinger's theory. It is a thought experiment that is intended to show the absurd consequences of the Copenhagen interpretation at the macro-level.There's something wrong with Schrodinger's theory if this is a necessary implication.

Re: Women and the Symbolic Order
Lacan's claim, as stated here (and very likely as stated in the original), is a vacuous claim by a vacuous author. I suggest that before spending any time at all on Lacan or people like him, you spend a little time reading Sokal and Bricmont, Intellectual Impostures (also published as Fashionable N...

Re: hello philosophers
Logic is a small part of philosophy though, and the logic used by computers is more like maths than philosophy. True, but given that question is about what to combine with philosophy that's not very helpful. I'm simply pointing out that, in my experience, there are certain parts of philosophy (logi...

Re: hello philosophers
I agree with Richard. Having studied logic as part of a philosophy, this proved a great advantage when I did computer programming.

Re: Evolution in a nutshell.
Nah, he understands it. Just like I understand it. And he and I think that it is ridiculous. That is not an argument. I find quantum mechanics ridiculous but that doesn't mean it isn't true. It's ridiculous that your defense is that you are not evolved enough to understand evolution and you condemn...

Re: okay!
It was reading Kuhn that made me switch from economics to philosophy. Much more interesting, or at least that is the way it struck me at the time. I've read a lot of Rorty and although I love his style and attitude toward traditional philosophical problems I'm a bit wary of his 'magpie' interpretati...

Re: Evolution in a nutshell.
It is certainly difficult for human minds to comprehend the forces that have resulted in their presence in the universe. However, the fact that someone finds it ridiculous doesn't mean it isn't true! In fact, the inability of this guy to comprehend the fact that he is the product of billions of year...

Re: I started a philosophy blog
Congratulations on starting your blog. A word of advice though. Keep the entries shorter! People who go to blogs don't want to read essays.
