Re: Complementarity & Reality

Yes, you are probably right.

And if one of the participants is a free agent, can he escape the complementary relationship or is he stuck for ever ?
A violinist or a singer can theoretically refuse to cooperate and start performing a solo part.

Re: Complementarity & Reality

Marx said a similar thing: Das Sein bestimmt das Bewusstsein. (Being determines the conciousness.) As a response to Hegel who saw things the other way round: Das Bewusstsein bestimmt das Sein. (Consciousness determines being.) So there was some sort of complementarity between Marx and Hegel, but als...

Re: Complementarity & Reality

I see.
So the word complementarity is used in this context in the sense of "symbiosis" or "inter-dependence" ...

Nietzsche´s Zarathustra would be of a different opinion and prefer the solitude of a hermit than the debilitating company of blinking over-civilized humanity.

Re: Complementarity & Reality

1. Is complementarity not one of the abstract concepts of big physics then ?

2. So money as real coins and money as a figure Richard B. deals with in a balance sheet are complementary ?
That´s interesting. Could you develop ?

Re: Complementarity & Reality

Yes, reality is full of fuzziness. If me make the black a little less black and the white a little less white are the two new ones still opposite to each other and complementary ? Complementarity could be an abstract principle. Which can be spotted in reality as a weak shadow. A Platonic idea. And t...

Re: Complementarity & Reality

Yes. And I couldn´t have expressed it more elegantly. And how about opposites ? Are they always complementary ? Light and darkness for example. Lack of light is darkness and lack of darkness is light. But there are shadows in between the two and half-shadows. Semi-darknesses of all shades....

Re: Complementarity & Reality

Since you mentioned yin and yang how about man and woman as candidates for a complementary pair ? What distinguishes them is the Y chromosome in men and a second X chromosome in women. If you look at the Y chromosome under a microscope it is hardly complementary to the X chromosome. It looks more li...

Re: Complementarity & Reality

What are the criteria for deciding whether a complementary aspect makes sense or not ?
For example: according to what criterium the aspect of flying does not make sense for a stone ?

Do we just have an inward innate knowledge of what a sensible complementary aspect is ?

Re: Hello Philosophisationers

Some people sneeze on and despise the middle path because it leads to mediocrity, according to them. Nietzsche for example. I wonder whether one could try a middle path between being an extraordinary and adventurous person and being a middle path person. One could be a furious god Dionysos from Janu...

Arising

If you go out in the woods today,
looking like Clint Eastwood because someone made you angry,
you come back home with a beaming smile on your face
and a bonanza of chestnuts.

Re: A Cyber-University

Now that I know what he is reading I think that he looks frightened or at least deeply worried and unrelaxed.
Like I felt when reading a book by Martha Stout about sociopaths.

Will he read Orwell´s "Animal Farm" too ?
It is important to have a balanced view.

Re: A Cyber-University

I cannot tell what the bear is reading, but it must be fascinating, judging by the expression of his face. :D Some Penguin´s Classic perhaps ? A difficulty can be considered a challenge. If you talk to someone over a beer or coffee you can tell by the voice and other signals whether you are dealing ...

Nice Teddy ! :D

But you could have some interaction with other cyber-students using skype (internet telephone).

I do not have skype, or MP 3 or internet at home, but I know how they work from hear-say.

Re: A Cyber-University

And this would also be my suggestion for a future discussion forum: that the poster reads his or her post and the reading can be downloaded on MP 3 and listened to in a comfortable position instead of reading it by staring at the screen. And the voice carries a lot of additional information too, esp...

Re: Hello Philosophisationers

It could be that you are still very young, Intranaut . Later on in your life you could discover that some things one prefers not to know because one does not need it for anything and if one has good memory this knowledge can come again and again and be a burden. You cannot delete anything in your me...
