Re: Philosophy Now Forum Suggestions Box

Have you considered marketing the official Philosophy Now Hemlock Mugs? Marketing would be directed at all those who haven't sold out to the Great Beast and keep Socrates' ideas alive regardless of how they are condemned by the modern secular educated. Of course these mugs wouldn't really be used f...

Re: Suicide by Cop by Troubled Activist

I vaguely remember that at my first university, UMIST, there were a couple of bored security guards who spent the night dozing in a little hut by the main entrance to the campus, and occasionally wandered around campus with a torch. This was a city centre campus, after all. Nobody would have dreamed...

Re: Solving metaphysics

If someone developed a world view which was internally and externally consistent, logically necessary in every respect, used common English for most purposes, could be explained at any level of detail, was perfectly compatible with the best understandings of science, and which answers the vast majo...

Issue 121 - Radical Theories of Consciousness

Hi folks, If you are on your summer vacation, then I hope you are having a wonderful time. No doubt as you lie upon your sunlounger gazing up at the azure sky, even the swaying trees and the golden sun itself seem to smile benevolently down upon you. What better than to repay their kind interest by ...

Re: Philosophy Now Forum Suggestions Box

Would it be also a good idea to have sub forums based on the periods too? For example, Ancient Medieval Modern Contemporary I quite like the idea but it could be tricky to have sub forums based both on subject matter and on historical period. For example, would something on Parfit's last book on et...

Re: New feature: comment count on articles

Sorry to hear that - how frustrating! However, I have told Anja that you enjoyed her article. It's hard to know exactly what went wrong. Possibly you clicked the "Discuss" button on the article, thus auto creating a discussion thread, but then took more than 24 hours to post, in which case the threa...

New feature: comment count on articles

Our illustrious digital editor has just introduced a new feature on the Philosophy Now website. As many here know, if you go to an article on the Philosophy Now website there is always a "Discuss" link in the top right hand corner. If you click that, it brings you here to the forum, to the discussio...

Re: What is a quantum computer?

Have you read David Deutsch's work on this subject? Just in case it is useful to this discussion, here is a link to an interview with David Deutsch that we published in Philosophy Now a few years ago, on the topic of quantum computing. The interviewer was Filiz Peach. https://philosophynow.org/issu...

Re: Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951)

I don't get it about Ludwig Wittgenstein. What is the big deal? One thing he says is "the world is not made up of things, it is made up of facts" But things and facts are much the same. Wars were things and they certainly proved to be facts. Sometimes I wonder about philosophers. Facts and things c...
