Re: The Muppets explain Phenomenology

And Germany should never have dropped Husserl for the Munich World Cup. They missed is his method and intentionality up front

Re: The Muppets explain Phenomenology

I think the creator of the clip may have known well that phenomenology was not an explanatory proposition. The title of the clip was, I think, tongue in cheek; the whole thing being then perforce a satirical way of applying the phenomenological method. Am I way out of the ballpark here?

Re: The Muppets explain Phenomenology

Hah! Well observed even if pedantic of you. Doesn't the humour the music and visuals have an overall prescriptive effect though? One is certainly not left with much descriptive meat. The residue I get is what Husserl would advocate: cut through the words and you get simple reality... Which is of cou...

Re: What should be the pursuits of life?

The way I see it, basically we have certain inclinations, and then certain environments pulls us toward certain targets. But what should we choose to pursue when virtually anything is possible? If one pursues high-culture (like humanoira and other excellence), there never seems to be an end to amaz...

Re: Marriage

What makes a good marriage/partnership? Emotional, physical and psycholgical compatability. Good sexual communication/interaction, even if the marriage is never consummated (which was a lot less rarer once than it is now) Is it in essence an ethical tie? A social contract at base, which if not refl...

Re: Nietzsche, Our Contemporary

Are you sure it was a benign tumor? I definitely remember reading that it was untreated syphilis that made Nietzsche mad. In any case, I'm sure you are right that his breakdown had a medical cause, not a philosophical one! It was benign in the sense that it was slow growing. I'd like to address the...

Re: Constitutionality of New Anti-Homosexuality Law (in US)

Well the actual word 'gay' comes from early years of Australian settlement when men way out-numbered women and the 'gay boy' was employed for certain services. To typify him; he was low testosterone and effeminate, for want of a better word. Sydney is still a gay Capitol. Just google mardi gras 2014...

Re: Constitutionality of New Anti-Homosexuality Law (in US)

Then hetrosexuality is a choice as well. How do you account for homosexuality in young males who have access and acquaintance with women? Is it just that we all can be bi-sexual and its social and cultural mores that make the choice? Reproducuction is a biological imperitave. Heterosexuality is jus...

Re: Constitutionality of New Anti-Homosexuality Law (in US)

I'll take a gander and pretty much expect to find a right-wing christian 'think-tank' at the base of most of this 'research'. Personally I think you ought to take note that the bulk of paedophilia, incest, rape and violence towards women and children is done within the 'loving' embrace of the hetro...

Re: What is wise?

Efficiency of knowledge is something a computer sort of does. Wisdom has much to do with the human application of knowledge. Don Juan Matus said that 'Wisdom without kindness and knowledge without sobriety are useless'.

Have you actually read any philosophy? Studied it? Met any philosophers? Or are you comments based upon your interaction with forums upon the interweeb? As your descriptions ring false to me. Re: If infinite parallel universes exist ...

You take the Hilbert's Hotel hoodwink for example. The guy asks us to imagine a hotel with an infinity of rooms, but all this is doing is creating a concept of a hotel with infinite rooms... game over... infinity is out the window as soon as you get started. Concepts only breed more concepts, not mo...
