Re: A Dawkins No-No

Why are you focusing on rape in particular? As I say up-thread, it cuts to the root of things. Rape, slavery, murder, these are unambiguous...it's difficult to dance around them. Each is wrong or not-wrong. There's no middle ground or gray area to hide away in. I don't even know what you are gettin...

Re: A Dawkins No-No

It's vile, nasty, and vicious Technically speakin', forced intercourse is no more vile, nasty, and vicious than consensual intercourse. Then, why is rape vile, nasty, and vicious? It must have sumthin' to do with it bein' non-consensual. But, why is that a problem? The cattle industry, for example,...

Re: A Dawkins No-No

I'm sure there are many people around who still think those things are ok, but they have been superceded by laws. Not in much of the world, actually. So you're back to the main point: laws don't make things right. In the ideal, they only reflect those things that are already right -- that is, in th...

Re: A Dawkins No-No

I'm really not interested in discussing anything with you you told Mannie. Then talk to me, Veg. You said Where I'm from rape is illegal (hence the word 'rape'). Why is it illegal? If it weren't illegal would that mean it was okay for a man to force sex on a woman, another man, a child? It's not ok...

Re: A Dawkins No-No

Richard Dawkins has been stripped of his 1996 Humanist of the Year Award for posting the following on Twitter: Richard Dawkins @RichardDawkins In 2015, Rachel Dolezal, a white chapter president of NAACP, was vilified for identifying as Black. Some men choose to identify as women, and some women cho...

Re: A Dawkins No-No

Another argument against the idea that saying "X is illegal" tells you whether or not it's moral. There are immoral things that are illegal, and immoral things that are not illegal. There are moral things that have been made illegal by certain states, and moral things that are not illegal anywhere....

Re: A Dawkins No-No

But it's only "where you're from." In northern Pakistan, for example, rape is culturally approved, and even considered virtuous, especially when it's revenge rape. In some other countries, practically nothing you can do to a woman qualifies as "rape" -- child abuse, forced "marriage," concubinage, ...

Re: A Dawkins No-No

TBH I didn't realise RC shared your ideology. I got the impression you two disagreed on most things. I haven't had much to do with him. You have raised my curiosity, and it's my only reason for asking but: "who is TBH," and what is his ideology. It's curious to me, especially since I do not have an...

Re: A Dawkins No-No

Hey, you want detail, I'm happy to oblige. You never do. Like a lotta folks, you sniff my posts, ask no questions and just criticize. In the face of that why would I offer details? I have, you know, here and there, and it never goes well. When I explain and detail and justify, the opponent, just re...

Re: A Dawkins No-No

Veg, any time you wanna hang me, just back up your claims about what I believe or don't believe with citation. As you say, there's years of posts, years of me declarin' this or sayin' that. Go find some evidence to back that mouth of yours or be quiet. You won't, of course, cuz... 1 You know no suc...

Re: A Dawkins No-No

So: you got nuthin' to support your claim I supports taxes to fund the military (which, had you gone lookin', you woulda never found cuz I never said it). And: the rest is for crap and not worth comment (cuz you're wrong, wrong, wrong). Cuz you say so.... If you had said you don't believe in fundin...

Re: A Dawkins No-No

But some can be 'trusted' more than others. What about referendums? Ever heard of 'the wisdom of the crowd'? I have no use for mobs. Nothing is true or right because of the number of people who believe or favor it. I've been observing the, "wisom of crowds," in the news. In Myanmar and, my favorite...

Re: A Dawkins No-No

Then you should have no problem ponying up the evidence. Please, cite the post or posts wherein I say I don't mind payin' taxes for the military. I'm not going to trowel through a decade of comments. You must know what you've written. You always brush over it but include it in your ideal govts. 'li...

No government can be trusted. The Israelites should have listened to Samuel.
