Re: God and Evil

Well there's your substantiation for Christianity. :-), well, well. I see this instance instead as a rare but clear-sighted insight into the forces of nature and adapting it for its own use by Christian mythologists. Not QUITE a substantiation for Christianity. Or transsubstantiation thereof, hehe....

Re: God and Evil

"It may be illogical, but they believe man and the devil created evil via their own freewill." This is incredibly interesting. The statement is NOT illogical, although it goes against what is said in the scriptures. It is well possible, albeit not true, since we have scriptural evidence t...

Re: God and Evil

You do understand that the Bible isn't written in English? That the words we have are all translations? The word that the KJV translates as 'evil' is not reserved for some abstraction 'Evil' but for all sorts of 'badness'. For example Job suffers from 'evil' boils on his foot. An animal with an 'ev...

Re: God and Evil

I did not say that and you have no foundation for saying that. So you are being unfair. Perhaps I should report you to the forum gods if the moderators are gods. Obviously Job was compensated but God was not responsible for what was done to me. God made a bet with the devil and allowed Job's family...

[what would give you the idea that I would kiss your ass in place of god's. I did not say that and you have no foundation for saying that. So you are being unfair. Re: God and Evil

"Obey me or else you are ousted from the tribe" is actually a very solid anthropological event. It happens with all kinds of mammalian species where the individuals form hierarchical societies: humans, chimpanzees, gorillas, lions, wolves. If you don't obey the leader of the pack, you are...

Re: God and Evil

The devil WANTS us to be disobedient to god. From moment one: "EAT THAT APPLE." So obviously it's not the devil that punishes us. If you get a chance, you could say that to your mom. I'm not sure I follow you. She presents the situation like: I'll help you if you obey me, otherwise you're...

Re: God and Evil

How can you say that, man? According to the faithful, god created everything. He brought EVERYTHING to the table. He drew the line? Heck, no, he created evil, and he says it so in an unmistakably worded sentence. Your mother properly picked up on that. Alright then, he brought everything to the tab...

Re: God and Evil

She would say that God does not punish, but the devil punishes because we are disobedient to God. She has an answer to everything. The devil WANTS us to be disobedient to god. From moment one: "EAT THAT APPLE." So obviously it's not the devil that punishes us. If you get a chance, you cou...

Re: God and Evil

It's not that god brought anything new to the table, but he drew a line in the sand. How can you say that, man? According to the faithful, god created everything. He brought EVERYTHING to the table. He drew the line? Heck, no, he created evil, and he says it so in an unmistakably worded sentence. Y...

Re: God and Evil

I can tell you exactly what they (Christians) believe: God is all good and evil cannot stand before him. Well, not all Christians. Your mom is a Christian; she believes that god is not all good, because god is capable of, and indeed, practices, punishing sinners. Punishment not something one does w...

Re: God and Evil

I can tell you with the authority of a lifetime of experience that there is not christian on the planet who sincerely believes that god created evil. In fact, God is the definition of good. Precisely. I've known that. And I am trying and trying and trying to tell them, them Christians, that they ar...

Re: God and Evil

I checked. This is the real question: If God is such a nice guy, why is there so much misery and suffering in the world? I'll give you what mom told me: because they're living in sin. Philosophically speaking, your mom missed the part that claims "god is infinitely good". This is debatabl...

Re: Global warming is NOT a science

The greenhouse effect that has maintained the Earth’s temperature at a level warm enough for human civilization to develop over the past several millennia is controlled by non-condensable gases, mainly carbon dioxide, CO2, with smaller contributions from methane, CH4, nitrous oxide, N2O, and ozone,...

Re: Back to Infinity

The one thing God cannot know is himself. I see it exactly the other way round - all God knows is himself. God (or whatever other term) is pure knowing - it is what God is. How could he not know himself if there is only knowing (the of itself is redundant). Well, nothing could be known unless there...
