Re: Misconceiving Truth

A belief in human omniscience follows. My admittedly limited experience with science has always resulted in the opposite. And almost always when I read about the experiences of people who engage with science a lot, they tend to promote the opposite. Despite the fact that by any rational measure hum...

Re: Misconceiving Truth

Ginkgo wrote: Metaphysicians deal with (...) metaphysical ontological conclusions while science only deals with the other half; non-metaphysical ontological conclusions.
That definition does absolutely nothing to help me understand the difference.

Re: Misconceiving Truth

An IQ test has become the mark of a superior human without regard to personality, talents and abilities, disposition, and a host of other traits, and this does not even consider our evaluation of other species. G When did this happen exactly? I certainly haven't seen any evidence of it. I don't see...

Re: Equality and Respect by Harry Frankfurt

Basically Frankfurt thinks that there is no intrinsic moral value on humans being treated equal. His thesis is actually that there is no intrinsic moral value in the egalitarian ideal. His argument is weak as it's all based upon his feelings and not on any real proof His argument seems to be based ...

Re: consciousness is in other dimensions?

You sound like a suicide bomber.

So.... Nothing wishes something would happen. It wants to know something. Shapeless infinity realizes itself as an infinite number of concrete somethings. Something goes wrong and thinks its nothing. What a waste of time (and space).

Re: consciousness is in other dimensions?

I love my life.
I don't fear death.
I wasn't around at the beginning.
I won't be there at the end.

Really grateful to be something and not nothing!

Re: consciousness is in other dimensions?

Nothing special about how I am using the term. Here's what Wikipedia has to say: "A delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary. As a pathology, it is distinct from a belief based on false or incomplete information, confabulation, dogma, illusion, ...

Re: consciousness is in other dimensions?

Substitute any kind of "delusion" for "ghost" in the definition "something that can't believe its nothing" and it works wonderfully well, although probably not in the same way as it was originally intended.

Re: Pure Consciousness?

Neurons oscillate. Chemical and electrical signals pass through them. Are these the movements you're talking about? A simple yes/no is preferred to the crazy-speak.
