Re: Where did the 'Big Bang' occur?

. You can define any individual thing or concept that has a name and you can define the word 'cause'. Then you can attribute a cause to each event or posit a process or series of events that formed each thing. This reasoning can be logically applied to any subsystem within the universe but if we de...

Re: Where did the 'Big Bang' occur?

OK, are we having fun yet? Hard Evidence for the Multiverse Found, but String Theory Limits the Space Brain Threat "In recent years there have been many claims made for “evidence” of a multiverse, supposedly found in the CMB data (see for example here). Such claims often came with the remark th...

Re: Where did the 'Big Bang' occur?

Nevertheless the possibility of there being a multiverse is an idea that cannot or should not be ignored. I imagine it even possible if we ever get to a thoroughly convincing TOE it may even include or exclude the the necessity for such a structure. I disagree completely. The multiverse is a comple...

Re: Earth at the center of the Universe?

From someone who has gained much respect not only among scientists but the general public as well: "While the Copernican principle comes with no guarantees that it will forever guide us to cosmic truths, it's worked quite well so far: not only is Earth not in the center of the solar system, but...

Re: Where did the 'Big Bang' occur?

Assuming you accept the Big Bang as an occurrence, it must have occurred somewhere - And of course you say you can not say where because there was no place yet in existence before the occurrence - You would be wrong. As I explained earlier there is no possibility of a state of non existence as exist...

Can Civilization Function Without Exploitation?

The history of Man is based upon exploitation - Man exploits his own kind throughout his history. Kingdoms, democracies, socialist states - You name it and one or more groups are exploiting other individuals and groups under their control - No such thing as a true democracy or a true socialist state...

Re: Earth at the center of the Universe?

And I maintain, irregardless of whatever philosophical or scientific jargon you want to use, that from nothing nothing can come In that case you are not doing philosophy. In that case you are not doing logic - But maybe you are right - Maybe logic does not exist, maybe like the universe it is nothi...

Re: Earth at the center of the Universe?

The term infinite in this context needs a more precise definition. The evidence for the big bang is extraordinarily persuasive which means that the universe cannot be infinite in terms of its matter/energy content. In the modern jargon this means that the universe is finite in the sense that it is ...

Re: Earth at the center of the Universe?

WHEN PHYSICISTS SAY THAT THE UNIVERSE IS EXPANDING THEY ARE NOT MAKING A PHYSICAL STATEMENT. They are making a mathematical statement because they are applying a spatio-temporal extension to a phenomenon which is purely temporal in nature. It is not the universe which creates the spatial backdrop f...

Re: Proposition {1.1}

I was thinking more along the lines of Russell's discussion of the reality of objects eg. his writing table. Personally, I don't generally accept social/political 'realities' as they are disseminated. I don't accept any reality but it does have a tendency to interfere with my fantasies of the world...
