Re: Christianity

To be honest, I feel more connection to Harbal and Lacewing here than to IC or Nick. I'm sure IC and Nick are good people in their own right, however, Harbal and Lace seem much more down-to-Earth to me, tolerant and accepting of human weakness. I guess the main thing I don't like about Christianity...

Re: Christianity

Harbal, do you have a need for meaning? I assume you are talking about meaning in relation to our existence. I am always looking for explanations, but I do not think there is any meaning, and no, I don't have a need for any. Is it possible that the essence of religion, not man made secular interpre...

Re: Christianity

Today, Christians have become a majority. They are not, actually...not in any country in the world. If you believe that, then you are only speaking about nominalism, clearly. From Wikipedia: Christianity is the most prevalent religion in the United States. Estimates from 2017 suggest that between 6...

Re: Christianity

Harbal, do you have a need for meaning? If you do, is it satisfied by the workings of the world? Does the world satisfy your need for meaning or do you ever feel there is something more then what the world offers? Is it possible that the essence of religion, not man made secular interpretations, dea...

Re: Christianity

Nick wrote on another thread: 1 Corinthians 2: 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. If this is true it reveals the futility of human...

Re: Christianity

What is a Christ like spirit? Being loving Being forgiving Having compassion Being humble rather than being full of yourself and your supposed ‘rightness’ Being generous Since I don't appear to have one in your estimation, you must be repelled by my ideas. Pretty much. You're probably a nice guy as...

Re: Christianity

What is a Christ like spirit? Me, I like the guy who went after the money changers and beat the tar out of 'em. So: I say a Christ-like spirit is one who couples just intent with just action. Does that mean a Christ like spirit believes in an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. If the money cha...

Re: Christianity

A while back I attempted a thread on Plato's cave called the Futility of Reason. It generated intense hostility for the same reason that the essence of Christianity must be hated as Jesus described. Rather then getting insulted I am drawn to the question of why. I see that certain questions are too...

Re: Christianity

People argue over morality and who is good. Like you and I.C. do? They believe We are all one Horrors! and everybody loves everybody. Who says that? It doesn't work that way You made it up. but who admits their part in collective evil? Evil isn't for everyone. Jesus pointed out that its works are e...

Re: Christianity

You know if you made Christianity sound a bit more fun I think you would get a more positive response, IC. I follow the One whom the world hated, insulted and crucified. A "postive response" is nothing a Christian has any reason to expect...nor any reason to want. Y'know, it's interesting...

Re: Christianity

Yes, but since the recognition of the insoluble contradiction implies conscious anguish, then, if one does not have sufficient faith in the Truth, one ignores the contradiction. Thought hits the insuperable limit but pretends nothing has happened, folds carelessly, as if the limit did not exist. La...

Re: Christianity

Dubious Why do you believe that spirit, which there is, but only in the sense of being alive, namely that which animates, can only be derived from the bible which you incessantly quote as seemingly being its true and valid source? Do you still believe that these silly and trite sayings really convey...

Re: Christianity

[Jesus answered Nicodemus] “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. The one who believes in H...

Re: Where is the philosophy???

Age 'Becoming wiser' happens, and occurs, through just LEARNING. And, by being Truly OPEN one cannot NOT 'learn'. Are you sure you don't mean indoctrinated so society calls you wise. ALL human beings are born Truly (and/or FULLY) OPEN. However, and very unfortunately, because of just how OPEN they A...
