Re: Do atheists freely choose Hell?

I just posted elsewhere that there is no hell. That said, the notion of anyone choosing eternal torture instead of something else is ridiculous. One would have to be insane to do so and if insane and God does not forgive the disbelief, then he wanted to send the atheist to hell in the first place an...

Re: Opinions on salvation.

I'll have to look up Universalists. I don't know of them. I'm assuming that the "everyone" refers to the believers amongst them, and not truly everyone, yes? Update: Seems to be very different types of Universalists. If I may. I am a Gnostic Christian and a Universalist. All are saved. No...

Re: God and Human Dignity or Human Dignity without God

I think they are connected, if there is no god what are we? It is hard to be dignified in a consumer-slave society. You would be right but not to the bible God. We each have our own spark of God within us but not the immoral genocidal bible God. I think our real God is somewhere between that mythic...

Re: Does consciousness relate to the afterlife?

If there is an afterlife, then where does consciousness fit in (or not fit in)? I'm well aware of the difficulties with the concept of consciousness and I don't see a resolution on the horizon anytime soon. I predict that your thread will be quite short as few know anything about the afterlife and ...

True. That is all subjective though so we have come full circle.

Re: Is creating false guilt for profit by religions a good moral tenet?

You did not list any that I recognized and that is why I asked for an item or two. Just because you don't recognize them, it doesn't mean they're not objective. But if you want to get back to a specific example, let's go with "Unjustified killing is wrong." Is determining unjustifiability...

The ones I've listed, at least, though some probably need to be reworded.

Re: Is creating false guilt for profit by religions a good moral tenet?

It does when a subjective judgement is what is determining justifiability. On this, you and I agree completely. Just because someone says a moral truth is objective, it doesn't mean it is. Both do require subjective analysis of the given situation so if morals are a human construct, which they are,...

Re: Is creating false guilt for profit by religions a good moral tenet?

To fight evil, one must first decide it is evil and that is always a subjective judgement. That is why I used that clip. I give the human victim the right to choose for herself if here death is right for her or not. I leave it to the shooter who helps his friend to die if doing so is evil or not. T...

Re: Is creating false guilt for profit by religions a good moral tenet?

"Protecting children is right" The best way to protect children to some may not be the same to others and that bring subjectivity into play. Regards DL Q. What is one good thing about a pedophile? A. They always slow down in a school zone. I have been trying to think of any situations whe...

Re: Is creating false guilt for profit by religions a good moral tenet?

[ I call it assisted suicide and he would go free. You would need to call it a "mercy killing." No suicide occurs in that scene that I can see. Fonda wants to commit suicide, but can't do it herself, so she asks someone to kill her. Exactly. The desire for suicide came before the desire t...

Re: Is creating false guilt for profit by religions a good moral tenet?

I call it assisted suicide and he would go free. He would not conform to mens rea and I think a court wold let him walk. They should see it as a mercy killing. Hardly a red hearing. "but it would still not undermine the contention that unjustified killing* is wrong. " Perhaps, but all I wa...

Re: Is creating false guilt for profit by religions a good moral tenet?

We need to consider the terms we are using. You think though shalt not murder to be an objective moral position. Is this murder or suicide? Is suicide murder of ones self? Is it justifiable? If you know the story, the last few minutes is all you need for a reminder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-...
