Re: How best to see outside your own culture, beyond the ideas in vogue?

Efficiency and human production will soar beyond any plutocrat's or robber barron's wildest dreams. This is certainly the mainstream view of most economists. Essentially all the economic progress which has been made in the past century has been due to technological advance and the biggest impedimen...

Re: Is There Progress in Philosophy?

There exists progress because scientists can stand on the shoulders of those who came before. It is the simple metaphysics and language of science that allows them to be hoisted up on the shoulders of the greats. We learn about the thinking of earlier scientists by means of complex and scientific la...

Re: How best to see outside your own culture, beyond the ideas in vogue?

I completely agree because the winds of change are already blowing through the more progressive societies of the world. It has yet to evolve into a global movement but I reckon this is just a matter of time. Unfortunately I'm an old fart and don't expect to see my optimism fully confirmed in my own...

Cladking. Controlling the flow of information has always been the most effective method of controlling the masses but coupling this tactic by enslaving people to personal debt is nothing short of genius. However I don't think it can work indefinitely because many people are waking up to the fact th...

Re: Mathematics Replaces Cosmological Myth

I would like to get your opinion on a few related topics. Do you believe that mathematics (or logic if you like) is a human discovery or a human invention ? It has aspects of both and neither. People simply found that they could set numbers to logic. So long as the logic of nature isn't contradicte...

Re: How best to see outside your own culture, beyond the ideas in vogue?

Schools barely touch on metaphysics, observation, perspective, and critical thinking now days in their headlong rush to teach facts and how to be politically correct. People leave school uneducated and indoctrinated. Colleges are even worse. I couldn't agree more. Our education systems are specific...

Re: Can words affect reality?

Doesn't even need to be a wrong turn to impact reality. It could be the way I wanted to go, but my words had an effect on the reality of the person I was directing, including myself, no? It changed something nonetheless, regardless of outcome, and whether we could predict it. You're talking about t...

Re: How best to see outside your own culture, beyond the ideas in vogue?

i can tell you point blank that this isn't something all people, or even most people can do. it's only possible (practically) for a tiny minority of people. ...And it's getting worse with each passing year. Schools barely touch on metaphysics, observation, perspective, and critical thinking now day...

Re: Mathematics Replaces Cosmological Myth

The sciences, in my opinion, were once a part of natural philosophy, and that is how they originally evolved. But we have conquered nature now. Before science was a part of natural philosophy there was a different science based on a language that reflected the wiring of the human brain. This wiring...

Re: Can words affect reality?

Can words affect reality? No longer. Language was once universal and metaphysical. Speakers of the language might be thought of as "practitioners" because to the degree they understood the words and the situation they could manipulate reality to their own ends. They called these the "words of natur...

Re: Mathematics Replaces Cosmological Myth

In order to live mankind requires various sets of rules. Without rules or the codification of human life there certainly can be no law and order; nor can there be historical moments that are knowable by self-conscious reflection. The question remains whether absent any historical or political rules...

Re: How close to reality can a scientific model get?

One should not assume therefore that phenomena are reality as this cannot be proven I believe another science needs to be invented that postulates phenomena are reality. I believe this is the type of science used by beavers to invent dams and ancient man to invent agriculture. This science quickly ...

Re: How close to reality can a scientific model get?

A model can only approach reality where the reality is one dimensional.

No reality is one dimensional with the possible exception of Time itself.
