Re: Is It Possible To Think Without Language?

I find that sometimes it is very difficult to put my thoughts into words, so I would say yes, it is possible to think without language.

Re: Revolution in Thought

Suppose you believe in God and believe that all His commands serve a greater purpose that is good and right. Suppose that He puts you in Abraham's position and commands you to kill your child. You believe unequivocally that His command is righteous. Isn't it possible, despite these beliefs, that a p...

Am I the only one who sees a problem in choosing a pill without free will?

You can't decide to take a free will pill, without possessing free will, which you don't have, because it's in the pill!
Are you suggesting that the red pill was ever a choice for Neo?
Great reference!

Re: "But who am I to try to help you see the light?"

No, because we are constantly moving away from a dissatisfying position to a more satisfying position (even if it's scratching an itch), for if we were satisfied to stay where we are, we wouldn't move from here to there. This is the direction that life takes us that we have no control over. So your...

Re: The irrefutability of solipsism and the recognition that consciousness is not physical

As Searle pointed out: solipsism refutes itself. If you're a solipsist, you don't believe this forum and its people actually exist. Expecting that a second solipsist shows up implies wanting solipsism to be proven false. Solipsism is a little like the Big Bang Theory. If you follow theory to its lo...

Re: Does One equal infinity? 7 step argument.

You'll have to start by explaining 2, before going on to the 3,4 and 5. What is a temporal entity?

"it approximates itself in a temporal reality and maintains a dual relativistic temporal nature embodied by the one dimensional line and zero dimensional point as corresponding and equivalent spatial entities."

This is utter nonsense.

Re: Does One equal infinity? 7 step argument.

"Considering all rational number is both composed of one and "constant" in nature, a mirror effect of perpetual symmtry through 1 as reflecting itself does not contradict anything in current mathematics." This makes no sense. What does it mean for a number to be composed of something? All abstract ...

Re: Free Will vs Determinism

It's a sign of freedom that you have responsibilities. It's a weak and therefore unfree man who shrugs off responsibilities. If there really was Free Will, what a responsibility that would be! The only person capable of bearing the responsibility of Free Will would be God. "If we concede that human...

Re: The irrefutability of solipsism and the recognition that consciousness is not physical

Yes, but only in so far as nothing is physical - that is, the argument goes not only for consciousness, but everything else too. But that just means we cannot prove that the physical world (and physical consciousness) exists - it does not mean that they must not exist. Am I right? There's still one...

Re: Is It Possible To Think Without Language?

I think that we do not define all symbolism as language. True, we cannot think without symbolizing, but that is not necessarily language. You need a word to determine that symbol. "Symbolism" itself is a language (lexical) pattern :) Were arguing over the definition of language and how broad it is....

Re: Does One equal infinity? 7 step argument.

Presented Argument: 1) "1" exists as "unity" and "wholeness". 2) As unity and wholeness "1" must maintain a self-reflective symmetry in order to exist. We observe this in common life where a physical or abstract structure maintains its stability through the reflection of points, with these points i...

Re: Is It Possible To Think Without Language?

we use language to "name" things and define feelings as well as observations around. once you decide on another system of codes to communicate - for example, the image of chair will serve as a definition of "have a seat" - you might start thinking by images, lines/dots, etc. :) but i think it's clo...
