Re: Calling All Liberal Race Baiters

Is it racism when you call people "racist," but have no proof but their skin colour? Is that racist, Skep? Is anything ever "proof" when you are just using the word haphazardly? I'm not. I know that I mean. But I'm asking you what you would say. And you can put in the word "evidence," if you prefer...

Re: Calling All Liberal Race Baiters

How did you "realize [you were] wrong"? What convinced you that the statistics were all untrue? I learned statistics. Yeah, well, they should have started you with this axiom: "an anecdote is not data." Check that: they should have taught you that "possible" doesn't mean "certain" as well. But not ...

Re: Calling All Liberal Race Baiters

"Possibilities" and "probabilities" are statistical constructs. Not in the way you use them, apparently. You use single cases, cases you admit you do not actually know have any racism in them at all, to try to justify outrage, and to argue for a policy change. That's absurd. By your own admission, ...

Yeah, I'm not finding your conversation very thoughtful or interesting.
Good :)
So...you're not here to say anything philosophical, thoughtful or intelligent?

Yep, I believe you now. Well, have fun.

Re: Calling All Liberal Race Baiters

you dodged the point about the relevance of "statistical" evidence from 2016 on particular examples of possible police brutality in 2020. "Particular" examples (i.e. single cases) of "possible" (i.e. undetermined) cases? Heh. :D That's about as unstatistical a language as a person can use. Watch th...

Sure I am. But I'm also a man who knows the difference between one case and statistics.

Skepdick wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2020 2:34 pm You are talking right past the point of the people who are outraged.
So? Outrage, like every other emotion, has to be justified by the facts. Unjustified outrage should not be indulged.

Re: Calling All Liberal Race Baiters

People who look like me respect me more than they respect her. People who look like her respect her more than they respect me. Maybe. But I'm from a multi-"racial" family too, so I see what goes on. There's two sides to it: some idiots may be a bit racist in their disposition. That's life; you can'...

Re: personhood

When Immanuel Can says "grounds for believing" he means supernatural grounds for his belief. That's wrong, B. I don't. I mean ANY grounds. Consider the alternative: do you believe it's okay for a person to lie to others, and tell them they are obligated to do X or not to do Y, and use nothing but d...

Re: personhood

Yeah you seem to have no idea that there is an innate moral sense in most people. Well, that's fine. But you're wrong. I do believe in conscience. Everybody has one. But that doesn't mean a) everybody listens to it, b) nobody ever rationalizes it away, c) nobody ever damages it or loses touch with ...

Re: Calling All Liberal Race Baiters

True story. One of my associates adopted a child, and had three of her own. The one she adopted is nearly the same age as her second, and they are thick as thieves together...real brothers. They went to camp together. And somebody at the camp, doing registration, saw that the boys had the same last ...

Re: personhood

You won't come up with anything any sensible person can believe. I've answered that. Yeah. But essentially your answer was, " Some people believe X, for now, and that makes it morality, and as 'real' as it needs to be." One would have to try very hard to come up with a less plausible answer, or one...
