Re: Spacetime

Space, (The Universe) is described as finite but unbounded. If it is finite it is of a fixed size at any one instant in time, that humans do not have the means to measure it is irrevelant. I, myself, do not have the means to measure the speed of light, but I do not question the accuracy of those who...

Yes, unless God is a human creation, then God would be a human comprehension.

Re: Tower of Brahma

If the moron couldn't figure out the answer and spent hours moving discs about, I would not call that art. Why would you use the word "moron" to describe someone who couldn't complete the puzzle? Why not? Just because a particular person cannot complete the puzzle, does not make them of low intille...

Re: Tower of Brahma

There seem to be at least 2 kinds of thought at work here. One is the person who will work the puzzle just the way it is intended, the other is the trickster who will try to figure a way to circumvent the rules and take a short cut. I encountered one of the latter when he started to place disks off ...

Re: how to live when you cant tell apart the onion and real

.paid off my mortgage 5 years ago.now i'm in my mid 30's, single & happy than ever before. There is no elevator to the top, you need to take the stairs. There is a book 'The Total Money Makeover' by Dave Ramsey, and from what you say you could be the poster boy for the book. Most of what you say in...

Re: Who has a philosophy degree?

The introduction of cell phones, texting, and internet forums, is developing a new variation of the English language, and sometimes it's like learning a different language. However I have been exposed to learning a second language, sort of, and it has been interesting. When My grandaughter turned 2 ...

Re: Who has a philosophy degree?

I read the results of a study that stated that most words could be recognized if all the letters were there even if they were out of order, I believe the first and last letters needed to be in the correct places. It now seems that all the correct letters are not always necessary for the meaning to b...

No, the artist has a need to express, and finds the canvas as a means to express himself, Just an explorer has a need to discover and finds a mountain to climb.

Re: Good Art needs Conflict of some kind?

I have been reading Joceph Campbell on Mythology and one of the points is that mythology is no longer working for humanity. One of the reasons is that many of the existing Myths were written in terms that refer to hunter gatherers or early farming comunities and there is little imagry that relates t...

Re: Good Art needs Conflict of some kind?

Does the purpose of the work determine whether it is 'Art' or not. Can art be merely decorative? I believe some would say that real art must stir some strong emotional response in the viewer, but what if the intention is to be soothing and relaxing to the viewer.

Re: Aesthetics now at a stand still?

I do see your point and I will try to explain a few ideas that come to mind, but bear with me as I may seem to rambel a bit. Materials are always being developed and improved like steel, cincrete, glass etc. and these small incrimental steps will someday allow an advance that well seem like an 'all ...
