Re: Can there be such a thing as a "Liberal Dictatorship"?

I'm just glad that there will now be an FBI investigation of Kananaugh - as there should have been from day one. Oh, right. A controlled, time-limited investigation, with no access to previous records or complainants. Guy's a party toady who should never have been eligible, even if he's not guilty ...

Methinks to find the answer it would be more conducive to ask a woman. They actually exist, you know.
Shhhh! Let them play with their imaginary womennikins. The real ones wouldn't talk to these losers.

Re:

"he'll do is remove, quietly, one by one, every means the average citizen has of opposing the government." Neither Saunders nor Bill's husband are currently in line for the Big Chair, so... .... the dictator won't be a liberal. He'll be an arch-religious-conservative who will attempt to recreate th...

Re: Can there be such a thing as a "Liberal Dictatorship"?

[S - I had no idea that all laws, rules and regulations were dictatorial.] If you chew gum you don't break all laws. Duh. If you use and sell cocaine, you don't break all laws. If you drive on the wrong side of the road, you don't break all laws. If you marry a second and third wife, you don't brea...

Re:

Never mind that the folks who ensure redress and change are the very folks who ignore that mechanism. The mere presence of the mechanism precludes dictatorship. That's it in a nutshell, yeah? Pretty much. That is to say, the US can still pull out of its political nose-dive, because those mechanisms...

Re: "democratic means"

You're right, nuthin' dictatorial about democratic process. A larger group dictates to a smaller group 'this is how it's gonna be': nah, nuthin' tyrannical 'bout that. # "consent of the governed" Translation: the consent of the majority (cuz, baby, if you're in the minority, your consent ain't requ...

Re: Can there be such a thing as a "Liberal Dictatorship"?

So, just write your own dictionary? OK In political parlance, dictatorship used to mean rule by force, intimidation and discriminatory laws. In those days, a democratically elected administration was not considered a dictatorship unless it bypassed the democratic process to enact laws and retain pow...

Re: Can there be such a thing as a "Liberal Dictatorship"?

Those people in Singapore hate gum. If you chew gum over there they will punish you. Throw you in jail or something. Fine you money. In US school our teachers were liberals and they were the same way as Singaporeans. They hated gum and would punish the kids for chewing it. They said we looked like ...

Re: Can there be such a thing as a "Liberal Dictatorship"?

Being called a dictator is not the same as being a dictator. If there is agreement by the public, whether its policies are liberal or conservative, the government is not dictating. When challenged by popular opposiition, how the ruling party responds is the measure of whether they are, in fact, dict...

Re: Can there be such a thing as a "Liberal Dictatorship"?

If liberals are good, Where did you get that valuation? Liberal means leaving people free, instead of forcing them to believe or obey or act according to some prescribed notion of propriety. That's neither good nor bad; it's just what the word means. Conservative means preserving something - a cult...

Re: Can there be such a thing as a "Liberal Dictatorship"?

Well, we've seen what democracy can lead to... You should possibly examine what had been done to the process and infrastructure of each nominally democratic system before these end results. All the same, democracy can give rise to conservatives, extreme conservatives, fascists, emperors and theocra...
