Re: I am AI
Why is that a problem? Are people not allowed to have opinions on how to live their own lives? Because if some ideological agreed upon opinion makes it taboo for another person to choose to fix their brain when another would say “no, you should live with that condition because that is who you are”,...

Re: Why conscious decision always coincides with what we do?
And/or to proceed with the cued motion. If you had to think about every single motion you produce consciously you would be overwhelmed, it is an offloading of processing to unconscious automated processes.

Re: I am AI
if a human has changes to their brain that affect its function, we can’t deny that that is sub optimal for them, , we would want to try improve their situation if we could, no? Read your words/language very carefully. Your bias shines through and your strawman is apparent. You are inherently assumi...

Re: I am AI
There are subtle differences between men and women So you are acknowledging that we are different. Great! but biologically the essential construction of the brain is shared. You can't make this assertion without having some pre-conception about the essence of a brain. Just as two people will have s...

Re: I am AI
The closer we inspect the idea, the more likely that for something to be functionally equivalent to a human, you would need human biology. And based on the assumption of functional equivalence we determine that something which is biologically the same as us that shares a large portion of the same m...

Re: I am AI
The question is, what is functionally equivalent? At what level do we determine the functional equivalence of two mechanisms? If we have two systems, one biological human, the other a synthetic AI using some form of neural network architecture. What level of resolution do we determine the functional...

Re: Why conscious decision always coincides with what we do?
The unconscious mind creates both experience of decision and decision. These two always correlate. For example, you never experience that you decide to do something but you do something else. The experience of decision apparently, according to Libet's experiment, comes after the decision. So, consc...

You seem to have an ego, therefore you must be human.

Re: Do we need consciousness?
Self driving cars are not yet at the level of human perception and have a long way to go. Road markings must be universal or they can’t tell where the lane is, some can’t see humans waiting at road crossings - Uber failed here. AI development’s greatest Achilles heel is the over confidence and lack ...

Re: Evolutionary reason for consciousness?
I have higher hopes though, that to truly solve the easy problem as Chalmers coined it, which would be to understand the total functionality of consciousness, we would gain insight into why there is anything it’s like to be conscious. Ok, but in the meantime I would like you to try and think of one...

Re: Evolutionary reason for consciousness?
Right now, there is not even a picture of the structure of consciousness, I.e. what systems of the brain are doing what at any given time when we are doing particular tasks requiring consciousness in varying degrees. You have already set yourself up for the trap of circular reasoning, all you have ...

Re: Evolutionary reason for consciousness?
This is conscious experience. All the senses learn this universal language and so can talk to any other part of the brain, and know what it's talking about. That's all good. It may be like that whether it is necessary or not. But I don't want to just explain it with the first thing that makes sense...

Re: Evolutionary reason for consciousness?
Let me ask you, when you put your hand over a flame, what is your initial reaction? It is to withdraw from the flame. You do this because you feel pain. Now, the body actually has a “silent” signal of pain below the level of awareness which acts much quicker than the consciously felt pain, it sends...

Re: Do we need consciousness?
I think that consciousness is the ability (ability to experience) of the mind so mind through consciousness can actively affect reality. I was mentioning that in materialism (probably your view), consciousness is the result of matter movement. So consciousness is the by-product of matter activity a...

Re: Evolutionary reason for consciousness?
Some say it's pain and joy, or more precisely the ability to feel or be conscious of fear and desire, for the purpose to produce creative-reaction organism as opposed to just reflex-reactive. In other words, when organism encounters danger, then the ability to feel fear will give it options to deal...
