Re: The Axiom Of Identity *Challenged*

"Can terrorism be stopped 100%(?)" Not as long as crazy folks wanna rule the roost. # 100,000 accidental deaths versus 1000 'political' deaths. The difference: the accidental deaths aren't a promise/threat/attempt to change the world. The accidental deaths are ugly, painful, awful and that's all. Po...

"When you say we don't understand this stuff, do you mean the concept of the stuff or the stuff itself?"

HA!

"That they desire goodwill toward mankind doesnt necessary mean they have an ulterior motive." Why is self-interest relegated to the land of 'ulterior'.? If I'm right (self-interest is the root) then obviously many folks can benefit from the self-interest of one (example: I care for my family, provi...

Thing is: I don't think any of you 'do' understand this stuff, at least not any better than me, hence a thread with many pages that goes nowhere.

Re: The Axiom Of Identity *Challenged*

Are you answering this question? How is the concept "that which is objective" related to "that which is objective "? Yeah, though, to be honest, I'm kinda befuzzled by that question. The notion that we can't talk about what's real, that we can only talk about concepts makes no sense to me. Entirely ...

"How do you account for the folks who can see past just what benefits them?"

Gimme an example.

Pretty sure I can show how self-interest is at the root of it.

Me, I'm an atheist...I think god is a fiction...but, if there is one, I got no reason to believe he'd be anything more than the wielder of the biggest stick, doin' exactly what he wants to do, for whatever reasons he cobbles together. I can judge him till the cows come home and it won't make a bit o...

God sends you to hell. You say 'this is unfair! you have no right!'. You stomp your feet. God sez 'to hell I sent you and in hell you'll stay' (if he talks to you at all). You yell some more...stomp your feet some more. About that time, the demons come along...time for the daily sodomy with a pitchf...

As I said (twice) in another thread... There's sumthin' outside of me, sumthin' independent of me, sumthin' that largely is observable in a similiar way by folks independent of one another. I call this 'sumthin' the world, which is comprised of a great many things, from the micro- to the macro-level...

"an electron is only an electron because that's the way we've mutually agreed to model a particular class of observations, not because it's in any sense an objectively "real" thing."

To my simple brain this sounds like 'electricity doesn't exist'.

He said: "An anti-electron, anti-matter, can we see them, no. The point I'm trying to make is not everything is visible, touchable, yet we accept them by FAITH." No, sir, I do not. I accept these entities as real because each is measurable. Tools were developed to extend human senses in to both macr...
