Re: Faith

I differentiate between true Christianity (what Christ taught) from what it became,Constantine Christianity. The jury is still out on the miracle working son of God but if a God then the sacrifice was a scam as God cannot die and Jesus as a part of the Trinity would not be stupid enough to condemn ...

Re: Faith

You won't know what you're observing unless you have some idea what your subject (i.e. "Christianity") actually involves. If you think Gnosticism is even potentially part of it, you simply don't. I agree that Gnostic Christianity can never become a part of the Christianity we suffer today. It is to...

Re: Faith

The Gnostic gospels were just as legitimate as any other. Then they got repressed because the ones selected ( by men, not God) facilitated hierarchy and bureaucracy. Something the elites ( Constantine) wanted. The elites did not want the sayings of Jesus that advocated a personal experience of God....

Re: Faith

Tell that to Pagels and many other scholars. If you knew much about the scholarship on Gnosticism, you'd know that a lot of it is highly skeptical of Pagels. And with good reason. Her work on Gnostics has some merit, but her glosses on Christianity are really badly wide of the mark. But you'd actua...

Re: Faith

David: You're going to find that if you argue with a Gnostic you'll get nowhere. It won't be because you're wrong, but because they do not bind themselves to the ordinary rules of logic or language. They're so convinced that whatever they believe is a product of higher illumination, that whatever y...

Re: Faith

Jesus said that the kingdom of God was both within us and all around us but that most do not see it. I do. If God is among us, are you seeing God? If not then you are one of the ones Jesus was talking about. Matthew 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole ...

. Never had any kids - but the hog in trough game seems to be, to a large part, what is making this life on earth pure hell for an ever increasing number of people - in each coming generation. Seems that you do not know how to look at the world. Every marker for evil I check is at the best level th...

Re: Do you think God wants less for his children than what y

. Do you mean, you want your children to be greedier than you? You want them to take a larger piece of the pie? - Noticed you didn't mention anything about being more moral, more empathetic, more human... Never had any kids - but the hog in trough game seems to be, to a large part, what is making t...

God showed he was a deadbeat dad when he abandoned his son after coveting another man's wife and cuckolding Joseph.

My kind of God that. Not.

Re: ancient civilizations

I am looking at the morality of the religions on our menu. The mainstream is definitely homophobic and misogynous as well as divisive and trying to keep the various tribes and religions separate. DL There's Gnostics, and there are non-Gnostics; that is divisive. All who are not Gnostic Christians. ...

Do you think God wants less for his children than what you w

Do you think God wants less for his children than what you want for yours? Most Christians think that God created man to be subservient to him. We are to love honor and most of all obey and serve his wants and needs forever as his heavenly children. As a son, I strained to do better than my father. ...

Jesus was a Gnostic. His place and time was familiar with Greek philosophy, Buddhism etc. Jesus was primarily Jewish. However he co-opted other views. Re: Faith

It's not Christianity, by any reasonable definition, for sure;. I think this is largely correct. Gnostic Christianity is an historical phenomenon. Insofar as one reason for the early councils was to declare Gnostic interpretations as heretical, the church effectively defined Christianity out from u...

Re: Faith

Are the quotes I gave a part of Christian doctrine or not? The quotes don't mean what the Gnostics would like to make them mean. This happens because Gnostics don't read the context. They just pinch out individual verses and bend them to the Gnostic doctrines. So no: the words are from Christian do...
