Re: Happiness of Pursuit.

A pursuit of what you feel like pursuing. A man in Korea did a Refusal Therapy. He made unreasonable requests (asked in restaurants to allow him to cook his own meal, asked policemen to allow him to sit in their cars) and endured the refusals. Birdwatching and ultrarunning and sailing around the wor...

Happiness of Pursuit.

I read about it in a book by Chris Guillebeau. I have not yet finished the book. Do you have any pursuits that make your life interesting and worth living ? Guillebeau himself wanted to go to all 192 countries in the world and he did. John Francis decided to walk everywhere and he did, for example 2...

Re: Interesting insights about love.

Yes, love makes us eager to excuse a lot in the beloved person.

All flaws and misdemeanors are charming in a way.

In a way only we are able to perceive.

So it is not possible to explain it to any third person.

How about shame and embarassment ?

Do you still love someone if you feel embarassed by their behaviour in public places ?

Re: Rebuilding Notre Dame vs. Helping the Poor

Poor people like to go and see Taj Mahal.

Does anyone suggest that it should be disintegrated, sold and the money given to the poor ?

Re: Would you like to live your life again ?

Just an idea: maybe this is what hell and heaven are about: One has to see one´s life again and again, eternally. The good ones enjoy it and are in heaven, the evil ones are suffering forever. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::: This thought experiment could be used as a test if one is doing the right thin...

Re: Would you like to live your life again ?

Either this or with a complete memory loss so that you repeat the experience with the same emotions. If you erase my memory then it's a moot thought experiment. I can't be sure that I am not re-living my life now. Neither can you. What re-living would entail is being able to experience without abil...

Re: Hello Everyone

The jugle law is a universal law of nature. The food chain is part of it. Survival of the fittest. A group learns from experience and tradites their experience to the young ones so they don´t have to invent the wheel, they can develop the customs further. Is that an argument for cultural relativity...

Re: Would you like to live your life again ?

Exactly the same way, no variation, the same mistakes, the same miseries, the same joys. Or is one time just enough or even too much for some of us. Like a prisoner in your own body? Front row seat to the movie of your own life? Without the ability to make any choices? I can't think of anything mor...

Re: Would you like to live your life again ?

What would be the point of repeating all of your life again knowing exactly what was going to happen Even if you had a particularly good one it would still be less interesting due to pre existing knowledge That´s a good point. I also thought about this problem and I decided that for the life to be ...

Lovely words in English.

What are the words that you enjoy pronouncing ?
Or perhaps combinations of words.

Some time ago I liked to say "Gwendoline", "gregarious" and "Edgar".

Care to share yours ?

Re: Hello Everyone

Morality comes from mores that is customs.

Customs are cultivated by societies.

If they are to be objective what can they comply with ? The universal laws of nature ?

Re: Why is English the wordiest language?

No, Holden alias The Catcher in the Rye referred to money as dough.

Scum doesn´t compute ?

But cheese and dough don´t compute either, do they ?

The term for money does not have to be positive, money can make you unhappy sometimes.
