Re: What is Wrong with me (my malfunction)????

Some of us don´t watch films often. I haven´t seen any of those you listed.

James Cameron is an incredible man. I read his biography. He risked his life personally many times so that people in the cinema say "WOW".
His life would be a nice film for me, but nobody has made it yet.

Re: Free ebooks and copyright ?

50 would be even better. I would not like to steal from a writer who tries hard to survive. But if a writer is dead for a long time and doesn´t have any earthly needs any more he will enjoy attention posthumously. So the copyright makes sense to me. But why is pdf free and other fonts not ? On an It...

Free ebooks and copyright ?

There are free e-books on the internet, for example in the PDF format. So it seems everybody can download them and read, the works are of writers who are dead and the works were published 100 years ago or earlier. And yet the website with these e-books quotes a "copyright". How can it be ? I wouldn´...

Re: Albert Camus: The Myth of Sisyphus

It could be the feeling of a small partial victory.

You manage to roll a heavy stone for just one meter.
Or you manage to achieve something small in your simple life, like cooking a nice meal, making a nice cup of tea or coffee.

Re: Coronavirus

What´s the worst case scenario ? If everybody in the world gets the virus not everybody will die. Only 2 per cent die, it seems to me. Mainly people with asthma and heavy smokers probably. I am sorry for the Chinese and don´t cast stones at them. They also eat locusts and other tiny animals and we c...

Do we hate our benefector ?

In the novel Avenger a CIA man wants to know why so many people hate the US. A British spy explains to him: because they hate people who help them. They cannot forgive the US that they are rich and powerful and thus able to help. So the motive behind the hate is mainly envy. Do you agree ? A possibl...

Re: Is it o.k. to chase a murderer in a foreign country ?

In the novel in question a young American man went to Bosnia to help refugees and got murdered by a Serbian criminal who just disappeared when Milosevic was removed from power. The grand father of the young man asked a senator for help but the 16 intelligence services in the US (CIA, NSA and all the...

Is it o.k. to chase a murderer in a foreign country ?

In the highly instructive novel by Frederick Forsych "Avenger" I was told that the US had passed a law that they could chase a murderer of a US citizen also in a foreign country if this country was not cooperating. To do this they would use secret agents, many of them experienced war veterans. It do...

Is telling a lie to oneself the same as avoiding admitting some obvious and unpleasant truth ?

That your boyfriend is a jerk, for instance.

Re: Simone de Beauvoir (1908-1986)

I also read "Mémoires d´une jeune fille rangée" and I remember that she lived in modest conditions because her family was impoverished. They had to save heating. Her whole pleasure was learning. Not much fun available. The person who seemed to have fun was Stépha. I don´t remember the spelling of he...

Re: "How do you define...?"...Definition

Fine in Latin means border or limit.

When we define a word we explore its limits and borders in relations to other words (or terms).

The limits of the word "animal" stretch and include human beings but not living objects that do not move, like trees.

Re: Unproven assumptions

Mr Frosteagle

We take for granted what works.

What works ... enough ?
What works ... better than other options ?
What seems to work ?
What works for the time being ?

What works for me does not work for a perfectionist like James Cameron. (I happen to read his biography at the moment.)
