Re: Does absolute truth exist?

Skepdick - What exactly do you mean by Absolute Truth then? I am not saying anything ridiculous here. If all apples are yellow there are no green apples. That is a true statement. If, by basic arithmetic - for example 1+1=2 and 2+2=4 - then 1+2=3 is TRUE (absolute in the sense that one cannot have a...

Re: Does absolute truth exist?

Obviously I meant arithmetic not binary arithmetic. 'Obviously' how? You weren't explicit about it, so it's rather ambiguous. The expression '1+1=2' is false in binary arithmetic, but it's true in trinary arithmetic. Is trinary arithmetic what you meant? Quatrinary arithmetic perhaps? Octal arithme...

Re: The Meaning of Life / by the New Messiah

I have devoted over 25 years into this overall theory, based upon many of my original ideas, and have published it here in the hope of receiving feedback and suggestions of possible improvement. If my theory proves to be correct then i believe that this could help people view the world with a new p...

Re: Insane Denial Of Conscious Experience

Steve - What us your point? Sure, we don’t need eyes to ‘see’ as we can also ‘see’ with our hands, ears etc.,. Why should I concern myself with “redness”? From the phenomenological perspective I would say I experience “redness” due to the hue, tone, brilliance etc., of said “redness”. I cannot imagi...

Re: How can we defeat "us vs. them" mentality?

If there is too much beauty in the world we’ll create ugliness in order to appreciate it more easily. If there is equality in the world we’ll create more inequality in order to notice the difference. If we combat the “us versus them” mentality it is likely because we’re too close to seeing ourselves...

Re: Ultimate Reality

RC - The OP seems to be stating the obvious doesn’t it? Essentially, what we cannot ever know we cannot ever know (doesn’t exist for us - has no ‘reality’ for us), whilst what we don’t know is not quite the same as what we cannot know as there is a possibility of knowing something new - and this is ...

Expressing Emotions

What comes more natural to the human heart the desire to express “positive” thoughts of joy, hope optimism and love, or the desire to express “negative” thoughts of pain, suffering, hate, rage and pessimism? My view is that people generally have a natural disposition to express more “negative” thoug...

Re: The Meaning of Life / by the New Messiah

Age - However, are you seeking feedback and/or criticism, or, are you just wanting to express only? If you’re granted a response I may bother to read the OP. At a glance it looks like someone may think themselves a prophet of sorts ushering in a new era of enlightenment - or they’ve gotten a little ...

Re: Universal Basic Income plan

People who win the lottery return to their old jobs quickly enough. UBI is a useful idea but generally speaking people want to feel ‘useful’ and to feel ‘worthy’ of what good fortune comes their way. It’s hard to imagine what will happen to human society if the need for human input in commerce lesse...

Re: Not Everything Is Physical

RC - I regard Kant to be the worst philosopher in history after Hume. Together they nearly destroyed philosophy. Really? Why? That is quite a bold statement. Why such distain for these two? If there were no human beings all the physical would exist exactly as it is, but there would be no language, l...

Re: Ontology Introduction

RC - Ontology is the branch of metaphysics which deals specifically with the nature of material existence. Nope. SPECIFICALLY it deals with ‘being’ and what ‘being’ means. Materialism and physicalism deal with what is ‘material’ and what is ‘physical’. This probably explains why I don’t understand y...

Re: Does absolute truth exist?

So-called ‘absolute truths’ exist within set limits. In arithmetic 1+1=2 is TRUE. It also depends on the system/context within which you are interpreting the meaning of your symbols. 1+1 = 10 in binary. So if I told you that 10 = 2 is TRUE... I am not really lying so much as I am translating meanin...

Skepdick -

That doesn’t answer my question. I never said anyone should ignore Derrida either? The last by that person sentence was obscure to say the least. I’ll await their explanation.
