Re: Simulation Theory and The Theory that Nothing Exists

Consciousness is not recursive Are you not a particular example of "consciousness"? Sounds to me like you are referring to yourself. That's recursion. - only our conceptual descriptions are (conceptual thought generally is). Great! Can you give me an example of a non-conceptual description? Thus: C...

Re: Simulation Theory and The Theory that Nothing Exists

I lean toward it being the case. The evidence so far can be interpreted that way. It can be interpreted both ways - and there is no way to determine which interpretation is "right" or "wrong". We already covered that. And as I replied, this is also evidence that we exist within a simulated reality....

Re: Nah. Same old Skepdick.

Get a grip Skepdick, you're a character, remember? Either that or it's a Scooby Doo moment when you pull off the hideous monster mask and, well I never, there's a hideous human underneath it. Don't hate the player - hate the game. Philosophy. Behind the philosophical mask there sure is a human. So ...

Re: New Age Skepdick.

Uh-huh. So you're dumb X2. I am "dumb" to the power of infninty. Are you hating the player or the game? Ecce homo eh? So who is the genius creator of Skepdick the revolting narcissist? Narcissism is about self-admiration, no? How much of a narcissist can I really be if I consciously make you hate m...

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?

Yes. Soundness is different from validity. That's why I specified both. Neither validity nor soundness matter if the conclusion is true. An accidental truth is better than an intentional falsity. It's because you think protocol matters more than correct conclusions is why I keep calling you a fucki...

Re: Ownness (sumthin' short, pithy, and raw; red meat)

Not at all. I say x fully expecting you to respond y. Whaddya know? You get the message and respond y. Works nearly every time. Granted you surprise me sometimes; not much though. So, uuuuuh, it sounds like you are as committed to the Witgensteinian/Actor-Network model as I am. Which is fine. But I...

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?

Moral judgements are not logical judgements; neither are aesthetic ones. Is that ALL moral judgments or YOUR moral judgments? Mine are logical. If yours aren't - say so. All logical statements are limited by their premises. No they aren't. Have you heard of reverse mathematics ? Reverse mathematics...

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?

(What?) I'm not looking for absolutes. On the contrary, your claim that all arguments are specious - like the claim 'all models are wrong' - entertains an absolutist fantasy, if only to dismiss it. Then go ahead and explicitly state your standard for non-speciousness, because currently you are usin...

Re: Bored now.

Meh. Fuck you it is then. See!!! It's you - it's not me! I told you I have a higher standard for "understanding" than you do! It seems to me that YOU are content with ANT/behaviourism. I am not, but when I ask you what it FEELS like to understand, when I try to "understand the individual" then you ...

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?

Of course. I try not to feed a troll that condemns philosophy and dumb philosophers, but subscribes to a dud metaphysical theory - constructivist epistemology; and that pleasures itself by whingeing about the choice of logics, but insists that a high order logic is the real one, as though that some...

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?

It's not relevant. Morals like aesthetics are based on opinion not truth. You are not even on logic's page. You do not get to refute a claim by posting an irrelevant description of a word's meaning. I gave you the logical meaning of 'judgment'. Logical judgments have truth-value. If you do not like...

OK!

If logic is not relevant then go ahead and utter the words "I am illogical".

They are based on logical judgments. Judgments have truth-value.

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?

More rubbish. The thing you linked is not capable of supporting anything. The thing I linked to is Higher Order Logic. If Higher Order Logic is not capable of supporting anything - then accept the implication that you are not logical and move on. In response to THIS "So, it turns out that, like aes...

Re: Hillary Putnam: Collapse of the Fact/Value Dichotomy

Putative and highly disputed fact: there are generic moral principles, often knowable by intuition. Moral assertion: humans should/ought to act on those principles; it's morally right do so and morally wrong not to. Once again, there's no connection between those two assertions. The second isn't a ...

You are using it differently to me.      Skepdick, you've already done snarkiness. It wasn't snark. I was stating a fact. Hypocrisy: Check. Why did you have to check?
