Re: WAR... what is it good for?

2. It resolved the slavery issue in the USA that is what we are taught in primary schools in US. but IMO this is not so. US Civil War was due to Slavery (economics of the elite cotton plantationers) as to why WHY the South seceeded from the Union (which was legal BTW - as was Slavery in the norther...

Re: WAR... what is it good for?

There are many reasons for war. One of them is treaties. WWII started due to Germany's invasion of Poland which England was bound to by treaty. WWI started due to the assassination of a member of royalty and his country was linked to other countries by treaty. It's a complicated mess. PhilX 🇺🇸 Prin...

Re: WAR... what is it good for?

if some moron shows up to claim your mind and body as his own, you might begin to understand the mentality of war from within, even while disapproving of your own warlike actions. Sure! That seems to be an appropriate response in the moment. What I don't understand is the mindset of war for conquer...

Re: WAR... what is it good for?

War is good for conquest and conflict resolution, and good for voicing disapproval of war. I don't understand the "attack/war mentality" Like a sucker punch, attack/war can be pre-emptive in the face of the inevitable. Not understanding war should not be confused with disapproval of war, and since ...

over population control

since our DNA predates agriculture - the hunter/gathering food resources are not all that high.

i.e. i concure with your assement as to the role of war.

this of course ties in with the usual Tribalism - fear of the "other" /etc.

food for our tribe, not your tribe/s.

Re: WAR... what is it good for?

I don't understand the "attack/war mentality" -- I think it must be a primitive form of insanity or stupidity. I can appreciate "sparring" for the purpose of increasing awareness and agility, but attacks that are meant for the sole purpose of destroying another and everything associated with them s...

Re: What is gravity?

but that does bring a question to my mind that i never thought of before. "heavy" Hydrogen - what? 1 percent of H is of that type (Hydrogen with one neuron). my question that i never though about until now is: was that 1-percent (like the few He and Lithium) "heavy" Hydogen created in the big bang,...

Re: Could we make a "litmus test" for true consciousness?

Western philosophy is a dead end because they take "I am conscious" too literally. Assuming waaay too much. In truth the only thing that can be said is that something other than nothing is happening (meant in the vaguest possible sense). if you can show this (prove) empirically, i'd welcome it. ;-)...

Re: What is gravity?

I made a suggestion, earlier in this thread, that neutrons could be the source of gravity, but I had to discard that theory, since most hydrogen stars have no problems sticking together and generating gravity. thanks for clairification - and thank you for the above reply to me - otherwise I'd not h...

whats with the slam against Solipsism? solipsism is self evident no? If you mean by solipsism that you can only know that you exist and not others then no, as the language you are speaking and thinking in disproves this idea. yes that is what i mean. how does the lauguage i speak and think in dispr...
