Re: Could we make a "litmus test" for true consciousness?

I don't think we can point to a Scientific case where there is Qualia with no Neural Activity, but I'm not convinced that Qualia can't be autonomous. I think that is mind which is autonomous. Not sure what the second question is asking. Sorry I should have said "If no, why could not we consider it ...

Re: Could we make a "litmus test" for true consciousness?

Take the process of Sight for example. There are numerous Visual Cortex areas that are activated when a particular scene is being viewed. But it is the Visual Qualia that lets you actually See the scene. Without the Qualia you would be blind, because Neural Activity alone is not enough to let you S...

Re: Could we make a "litmus test" for true consciousness?

Qualia is the only thing you know. The redness of Red is only in the Qualia. This means that Red Qualia has the Property of Redness. There is no Property of Redness in the Physical world. It is only in the Illusion as you say of Qualia. Think about the Redness itself and understand it better. When ...

Re: Could we make a "litmus test" for true consciousness?

Science has known that for a hundred years. That's the Easy Problem. The Hard Problem is explaining how Neural Activity creates the Conscious experience. Qualia doesn't have essence therefore it is an illusion. When you map between Physical State and Conscious State you are only showing what the Ne...

Re: Could we make a "litmus test" for true consciousness?

You say Matter creates Qualia and there isn't anything extra. The Qualia is the extra thing. I think qualia is not a thing. Matter moves and that affects mind. The affection is what we call qualia. You say that like you have never contemplated the Redness of Red. You just too easily dismiss the act...

Re: Could we make a "litmus test" for true consciousness?

And what is mediator (something which causes conscious state given physical state)? If your answer is non, then physical states are conscious states. With your question you have realized what the Explanatory Gap and the Hard Problem of Consciousness is all about. You didn't answer the question. I d...

Re: Could we make a "litmus test" for true consciousness?

You can still have two separate Categories of States that are happening. We will then have the Physical Category of States and we will have the Conscious Category of States. They can both be in the same Space. Science can tell us a lot about the Physical Category of States of the Brain but has litt...

Re: Could we make a "litmus test" for true consciousness?

Conscious state is physical state (you know this by fact when you experience hallucination by disturbing your brain). This means that two brains which are in the same physical state are in the same conscious state. Therefore my test works. We only know that Conscious State is correlated with Physic...

Re: Mind-reading robot

A robot reading your mind means that thoughts are physical. Doesn’t it? Science recognizes the principle. The future is now about refining the recognition of the robot, and refining the receptors to wireless. Mind-Reading Robot Can Tell From Your Brainwaves When It's Made A Mistake https://www.forb...

Revisiting the age old question:
I am conscious, but how can I know for sure, that others are too?

How can we tell?

What would you consider to be evidence of consciousness?
Whoever would come up with such a litmus test will have solved the Explanatory Gap, and the Hard problem of Consciousness.

Re: The Inter Mind

All Mysteries must be solved, and I think that all Mysteries will be solved some day. We should never stop trying. One way to solve the mystery would be to replicate the conscious self...I can't think of any other way...we can replicate our self by making conscious robots. Then we'd have two specie...

Re: Leibniz's mill and the "Hard problem of consciousness"

I have been checking a line of thought that consciousness comes in layers of control. First is basic uncontrolled responses that are chemically or mechanically based - that of simple creatures. Then there is the capacity to control responses, deferring rewards and strategising. Then there is the hu...

Re: The Inter Mind

Maybe the Oneness you talk about is true and so there is no Gap for you. But I am talking about what Science knows and doesn't know right now. Science more and more is figuring out how the Brain works. Science claims to have solved what Consciousness is by saying that it is just an Illusion of Neur...
