Re: The 'simulation hypothesis' title major flaw

Well, I said to a target that is not the first thing, and I am part of reality, so no, reality does not project to me. With that logic, there would be no term 'projection', since all projection is contained within reality. Contained within, sure, but not project by reality to not-reality, unless yo...

Re: The 'simulation hypothesis' title major flaw

Why are you using the term magic? 'Magic' covers explanations that lack scientific backing. Dark matter can be modeled and quantized, and makes testable predictions, as does gravity, despite my inability to see it. It makes dark matter a natural proposition. I agree that the line is thin in places....

Re: How does time work?

Another way of measuring mass is resistance to acceleration. The faster something is going, the more energy you have to give it to achieve the same acceleration. Hate to disagree, but this seems misleading. Acceleration is a function of force and mass, not energy. F=mA, or A=F/m. So for instance th...

Re: How does time work?

I have to respond to this myself uwot. Yes gaffo, you've found quite an old post here, and you do like to tell me how wrong I am it seems. Time as a coordinate system. no, that is space. time is the 4th dimension. Yes, a 4th dimension (axis) to the coordinate system whose other three axes are space....

Re: The 'simulation hypothesis' title major flaw

'Natural' does not mean 'existing'. No they are clearly different words of different meanings, but explain to me something that exists that is not natural. You are talking to the wrong guy. 1) My approach is similar to the methodological naturalism used by science, where we both choose not to consi...

Re: The 'simulation hypothesis' title major flaw

Just because we have no empirical evidence of something does not denote it as unnatural or even supernatural. I didn't say otherwise. 'Natural' does not mean 'existing'. Do we have empirical evidence of dark energy\matter and the behaviour of the particles that make up that matter, or should we cal...

Re: The 'simulation hypothesis' title major flaw

No, it is nature. You just said it constructs reality. That would be nature creating nature, which is not possible under natural law. By nature I am referring to all existence. The word means nothing of the sort. It means only the particles, atoms and their behaviour, the part that science studies....

Re: The 'simulation hypothesis' title major flaw

The 'thing' is a 3rd party entity that constructs reality such that we can perceive it. Also, your 3rd party (claimed to be natural) is creating nature. No, it is nature. You just said it constructs reality. That would be nature creating nature, which is not possible under natural law. I don't need...

Re: The 'simulation hypothesis' title major flaw

The 'thing' is a 3rd party entity that constructs reality such that we can perceive it. It is a projection to our consciousness. You make it sound like the reality is separate from the perceiving consciousness. That isn't naturalism. You can redefine the word to you liking, but it still isn't natur...

Re: The 'simulation hypothesis' title major flaw

You seem to be forgetting that what our consciousness 'constructs' is a projection upon it. For example, if you close you eyes and imagine an apple, therein lies the 'projection'. A thing is not a projector if what it is doing in within itself. Not what the word means. The simulation hypothesis is ...

Re: Objective Reality

Did E happen? Your whole description seems to be tackled from an epistemological standpoint, where nobody else sees the result of the coin toss picked up by O, so do we trust him? We can't know for sure. But now you ask if the event (heads say) actually happened, which is a whole different question...

Re: Why Physicalism is Wrong

You can't just look up and understand the measurement problem by reading a few sentences on Wiki. No offense but you don't know what you're talking about, but you're quite certain about it. There are reasons why not even all the great physicists of the 20th century could quite wrap their head aroun...

Re: The 'simulation hypothesis' title major flaw

In the virtual world, the conscious entity is seperate, however is immersed within the simulated virtual world. Yes, that's the distinction. A separation of entity from the world it experiences. I figured this is the projection hypothesis of which you spoke because the reality is projected to and c...

Re: If a tree falls in space, does it really make a sound?

A tree falling causes a vibration. Well, a tree hitting something causes vibration. In outer space, the tree has nothing to do but fall, which is why they call it free fall. Not very much bonking into things going on, but it happens now and then. A sound only occurs when something has the ability t...

Re: The 'simulation hypothesis' title major flaw

On the contrary, we have no knowledge that our reality is a simulation. That is not contrary to what I said. I agree with it. No you don't, this was your statement:- 'On the contrary, both proposals say that we have nothing but awareness of the reality being simulated.' You are stipulating a plausi...
