Re: Leibniz's mill and the "Hard problem of consciousness"

I think it would be better if we avoided saying we 'see the visualized triangle'. To visualize something is not to see it. That is a good way to put a distinction I tried to make earlier - that visualizing/imagining is not the same as seeing. There is, among other things, a voluntary/involuntary di...

Re: Knowing

Why do you all waste your precious time replying to an internet bot, because after reading a few Dontaskme posts, it seems obvious that it isn't human, nor does it have any conception of what knowledge is. It's like having a conversation with a poorly written computer program.

Re: Leibniz's mill and the "Hard problem of consciousness"

"Suppose that there be a machine, the structure of which produces thinking, feeling and perceiving; imagine this machine enlarged but preserving the same proportions, so that you could enter it as if it were a mill. This being supposed, you might visit its inside; but what would you observe there? No...

Re: Who- why- where are we ?

It seems that since we are aware of ourselves we have been trying to find out who, why & where we are and that many of our religions, cosmologies, philosophies and sciences developed around this quest. The answers differ widely, see for example neurologists, Buddha, Hegel, astrophysicists, Lao Tse ...

Re: Knowing

Being that I don't know what dontaskme is even talking about, I'll respond to this: . "I know that I know nothing" ~ Socrates ~ Socrates contradicts himself on at least two levels here. On one, he plainly exhibits that he knows his native language enough to communicate abstract ideas with it. On ano...

Re: Is it true what you can't hear and see is as important as what you can hear and see?

Possibly. I'm assuming that what you mean by "important" is that it would be useful to accomplishing some goal - like survival or procreating. There may be some things that you can't perceive that might be useful to accomplishing your goal. I'm sure you had an experience where you made a decision wi...

Re: ~ If Selfishness is Our Natural State of Individual Consciousness...~

Yes, we are all selfish. But if this is the case, then how can any of us work together in order to accomplish a shared goal, which happens a lot. This needs to be reconciled with the fact that we are all selfish. Richard Dawkin's book, The Selfish Gene, argues that naturally selfish creatures with l...

Re: The Nitty Gritty of Language

Language is simply sounds and scribbles. You can only understand that these sounds and scribbles refer to, or represent, other things that aren't sounds and scribbles if you already understand the concept of representation - that things (symbols) can refer to other things. It seems to me that it is ...

So, according to this "invention" of yours, you also should be a liar. My compliments. . Yes. I am no different than any one else. That was kind-of the point of this thread. We almost need to see into ourselves first before we are able to have the reflective psychology. . So then why should we beli...

Re: The Two Dumbest Political Parties on Earth

The Libertarian Party and the Green Party have candidates in every American presidential election and don't have a prayer of ever winning. Now, if this doesn't qualify them as the dumbest political parties on Earth, I don't know what does. What the fuck are they trying to accomplish other than a we...

I find it amazing that we aren't talking about the classified information on her private server that Russia hacked. Thanks to her lazy security, Russia had easy access to our classified information. They are only releasing a small fraction of what they've stolen. How can we ever trust her with any c...

Re: Is It Possible To Think Without Language?

Hi, there are lot of confusion about thinking that there are need languages or not. But first point to be noted that without word how can i express and if we feel or express something then we need to give some world for that feeling. So my opinion is language is needed in some point of thinking and...

Re: Self-awareness?

Can you be Conscious without being Aware- No. Consciousness is the recognition of Awareness only. Awareness is a prerequisite for consciousness to arise. So consciousness is the awareness of being aware. This is nothing more than turning your thought processes onto the process of being aware - of t...
