Re: Mind is eternal

What if our hypothetically existent God was in possession of all of the structured knowledge necessary for fully and completely replicating itself? No. He cannot. Nonsense! Allegedly... (aside from not being able to create square circles or anything similar) ...there is absolutely nothing that the ...

Re: Mind is eternal

It depends if you God is pure actuality or not. The state of decision is a potentiality. Therefore I have no proof for God to be eternal if He cannot decide. The “hypothetical” God I am speaking of is the one typically envisioned by those of most monotheistic religions (especially the Abrahamic one...

Re: Mind is eternal

This is the result of two arguments: (1) Free agent cannot be created and (2) Something which cannot be created cannot be annihilated. The first argument is discussed in here . The second argument is discussed in here . bahman, before I can address the topic of this thread, would you please clear s...

Re: Universe can't be infinite.

'Empty space' as we call it is actually something and it originated in the Big Bang. That’s true, and some people tend to confuse the “empty space” that exists within the inner context of the universe with that of the infinite “nothingness” into which the universe is expanding... ...as is clearly r...

Re: Let's kill God - that evil SOB

So, we get a diabolical evil being, bent on death and destruction. God is evil. Our universe and ourselves are made by a Devil claiming to be a God. Does that not make his followers complicit? No. That makes them innocent victims of the cult-like indoctrination they received as children - an indoct...

Re: Universe can't be infinite.

I don't see much of a mistery here. Causality only applies to spacetime (in the "underlying" QM there is no cause and effect, just "correlations"),... From where, exactly, did that which is capable of having “correlations” come from? - That's the mystery. ...and spacetime may be circular, a closed ...

Re: Let's kill God - that evil SOB

Let's assume for a moment that God exists, and that the Old Testament describes him. If we soberly and honestly analyze that description, we get something similar to Richard Dawkins description: The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud...

Re: Universe can't be infinite.

Oh dear thats not quite right! It allows you to get something from nothing timelessly. Back to the drawing board... Sorry about that. What I am about to say is not intended to dissuade you from formulating your theories, however, in my personal opinion, here is the crux of the dilemma: If you have ...

Re: Universe can't be infinite.

But if time extends forever before the first event, there is nothing to cause the first event - that violates the axiom 'events are caused by events' - so time cannot extend back indefinitely. From my perspective, a first event would merely be an inexplicable occurrence that would represent a refer...

Re: Universe can't be infinite.

Actually I think I can prove time is finite: 1. AXIOM: events are caused by events 2. The number of events in an infinite regress is > any number 3. Thats a contradiction (can’t be both a number and > any number) 4. Making up magic numbers is not allowed (can break any theory if magic is admissible...

Re: Universe can't be infinite.

_______ The universe is not infinite. And I believe that the “why” of that statement can be understood from the perspective of a Berkeleyanish form of idealism as per the following: As we stand on the earth and look out into the universe, I suggest that the sense of endlessness and infinity we exper...

Re: Can God be beyond the universe?

Right, so surely it has to be circular then? Time I mean; thats the only way out of the chicken and egg problem. The start of the universe was caused by the end of the universe. The big crunch causing the big bang in an eternal loop. Allow me to copy and paste this prior exchange: So God exists bey...

Re: Can God be beyond the universe?

_______ (Continued from prior post) Does he have his own version of time to get things done? I speculatively suggest that within his own context of existence, God is surely subject to the linearity of time. I mean, how could any self-aware entity, regardless of the context of reality in which it res...

Re: Can God be beyond the universe?

I think that the saying 'great minds think alike' can be applied to God and humans. Okay, but can the saying “great minds think alike” also be applied to humans and amoebas? Because from my personal perspective of God, that’s basically how the contrast should be envisioned. So God exists beyond the...
