Re: There is no logic for a single, separate god

You are affirming the consequent in much of your syllogism (or attempt at a syllogism). Your "givens" are merely assumptions. Thus an assumption proves nothing. And "everything we are aware of" is argumentum populum AND hasty generalization. Seems like you and Protagoras in ancient Athens would hav...

Re: Why I Am An Atheist

One thing I’ve noticed about atheists here who claim to respect logic; they openly commit the logical fallacy of false dilemma. There are only two choices for them: belief or denial. I'm not sure that's what's happening. I see non-theists saying that they have neither. There's nothing to believe no...

Re: Why I Am An Atheist

Thank you for your responses, Nick. It's very refreshing when someone is actually responsive to questions about their claims - even if it creates more questions. Then how is it that you think you can comprehend it at all... and think you know that it exists? How are some people open to the relations...

Re: Why I Am An Atheist

However, the ineffable transcendent god beyond beyond time and space, incomprehensible for Man , and the source of creation, cannot be contradictory. Then how is it that you think you can comprehend it at all... and think you know that it exists? Also, can you please offer your perspective as to wh...

Re: Who Really is an Atheist?

Sthitapragya... from what I have seen with most theists I've interacted with (and I grew up in the church too), there is no amount of logic/reason/examples that will show them how well people and life function without a god. (You couldn't have convinced me when I was in the church.) Such insight goe...

Re: Who Really is an Atheist?

My personal concern is both for the truth necessary to unite science and religion and also for the personal well being of the young surrounded by spirit killers in schools. Just curious... what do you think about children being subjected by adults to Pentecostal (or other extreme) religious environ...

Re: Is the need of salvation an evil lie from religions?

Unfulfilled desire is suffering. Show me where it is not. I think unfulfilled desire can be experienced a whole lot of ways -- it is not necessarily what one might consider suffering. It could be disappointment... or inspiring, if one has the sense that their path is being redirected for a very goo...

Re: Is the need of salvation an evil lie from religions?

   Nice, Dalek. But as to this point... Desire is never ending. So fucking what? What's wrong with desire? What's wrong with unfulfilled desire? So you try harder or look elsewhere, and find something even more awesome... and on and on. Why are you making things wrong and/or not good ...

Re: Is the need of salvation an evil lie from religions?

Scope of sight is everything. Many enlightened beings have discovered how to transcend suffering, through a broader way of seeing. When we focus on pain and suffering, it becomes our world. When we lift our gaze to see much more broadly, our experience can be transformed in increasingly unfathomable...

Re: There is no logic for a single, separate god

Wait, I want to know how doc feels and thinks about Santa! :D I believe in the spirit of Santa Clause that is alive and well in the world, except for a few Scrooge's among us. As far as a real live Santa that lives at the North Pole? I don't know, I have never seen him, so I can't say one way or th...

Re: Is the need of salvation an evil lie from religions?

In the poetic introduction to "The Ouzo Prophecy" it says, "I can offer you salvation in a game called Ouzo," and the rest of the paper goes into detail. Is it my problem that you cannot pick up on it? Nobody cares or believes what you wrote up. There's nothing to pick up on. It's all made up. Mayb...

Re: There is no logic for a single, separate god

I have heard Atheists explain before that Atheism is not a belief, but a lack of belief, and that's OK, but as an Atheist you do have some idea about the existence or non-existence of God, and that is what I am interested in. What if we compare it this way: How much do you think about Santa? Do you...

Re: Is the need of salvation an evil lie from religions?

I offer salvation in a game called Ouzo. What do you offer? You aren't able to deliver what you claim, Bob. You are in no position to offer anyone salvation -- you've not even mastered yourself. And you seem unable to comprehend (time and time again) anything that might exist of value beyond your s...
