My composing dream

Here are links that explain everything about my composing dream and these tunes in my head that I think are great. Other people don't realize their power and greatness yet and I talk much about this. These 2 links are links to the same, long, opening post that explain it all (just in case one link d...

Re: The words we think as opposed to what we experience

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and ask, just how are you using the word value? Is it not a belief in the importance or worth of something? You need to have the belief before you can "experience" or "perceive" it and this concept is not synonymous with saying something is beautiful or tragic...

Re: The words we think as opposed to what we experience

Firstly we don't "perceive" or "experience" value in philosophy, it is an idea or belief about the importance or worth of something like an ideal. It's not about whether something "matters" to you or not, that's not the same thing as valuing something. You can interpret or infer that if something "...

Re: The words we think as opposed to what we experience

I don't even understand your analogy but put simply, emotions by themselves, without interpretation, are insufficient for valuing something. It's like saying sperm is needed to create life but the problem is that it's insufficient to just have sperm and then create life, you need to fertilise an eg...

Re: The words we think as opposed to what we experience

I never made the claim that one can experience such things without emotions, I have no idea about that. It makes perfect sense to me that a highly intelligent AI might not feel such things. I am not prepared to use the word "emotions" but it's certainly true that we didn't create beauty, disgust an...

Re: The words we think as opposed to what we experience

You hide behind God to give your words a power they can't find through reason seemingly because you are tired of how others interpret the meaning of your experiences and emotions. Well if it makes you feel gratitude and optimism towards life then it's not so bad. You will have to deal with negative...

Re: The words we think as opposed to what we experience

Who says that? Nobody. Nobody says "You need to think the words I care about this person" and that's just such a dumb way to think about words in general. If I care about someone then words can help me express that, however, my basis for caring about something has nothing to do with the words. That...

Re: The words we think as opposed to what we experience

It goes without saying Mozartlink that we don't intellectually create emotions, we can't make new ones or get rid of old ones. It is far more complicated than segregating emotions into "positive and negative" ones but you've already recognised the intellectual aspect of emotions. It is the triggers...

Re: The words we think as opposed to what we experience

Whether you agree or disagree, it is a fact. An experience without interpretation is just a memory, incapable of creating an argument. Could you respond to the rest of my post regarding the drug addict's brain because my brain could be wired like that? In some contexts, most people are like that. I...

Re: The words we think as opposed to what we experience

Firstly I don't know what you're arguing against when you draw distinctions between words and feelings. That's the heading of your post but realistically, I don't know anyone who argues that thinking about suffering and suffering are the same things. There is an intellectual aspect to emotions, how...

The words we think as opposed to what we experience

I've struggled with many miserable moments in my life and my emotional experiences were something powerful and profound. This experience has led me to a conclusion that I'm desperate to prove. I've been trying to prove it time after time. But all those attempts have failed since I didn't present and...

Why emotions and value are the same thing

Note to Reader: I support my view with as many arguments I can to make it thoroughly convincing. If I just said a simple statement or paragraph, that would leave plenty of room for objections. So, I attempt to address all the objections I can think of. I attempt to explain why my positive emotions ...

Re: My new support for hedonism

Here is my opinion on your theory of value. Emotions are quick and dirty signals we have, which are, as you say, a pat on the back, or a slap on the wrist. Beyond that, they also engage and prepare our body for potential future events which are predicted to occur. Value is not the same thing. Value...
