Is God a Metaphor?
Dear Friends, As you probably know, authors of essays are often eager to find readers. I am one of such authors. That is why my mini-book, "Is God is a Metaphor?", costs less than one dollar, at http://amazon.com . Just type the book title into their search box, and click RETURN. This mini...

US electoral system
The ongoing debates (August 2015) among potential Republican presidential candidates reminded me of a note I posted several years ago. Below is a link to an updated (and hopefully better) version of this note: http://pages.csam.montclair.edu/~kowalski/presidentEN.htm How can a retired teacher miss a...

The Personal Story of an SS Man
Review of P. Neumann's book: "The Black March: The Personal Story of an SS Man" The "Black March,” a memoir-like book, written by SS officer Peter Neumann, is certainly worth reading. It describes the process of education of an obedient servant of a totalitarian regime, and his subseq...

Clear communication
Language, either spoken and written, is a form of communication. One tool for Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) is Twitter. It forces users to communicate with very short messages--no more than 140 characters; spaces between words are counted as characters. Twitter is not for those who prefer t...

http://pages.csam.montclair.edu/~kowalski/theo/atheist.html Comments will be appreciated. I suggest that quality articles like the one linked above merit threads of their own. I hope that someone will start a thread of comments on what I wrote (see the link above). I am too busy with other things n...

Re: Fundamentally significant questions
Yes, philosophy is not science. It is based on logic, like mathematics. A philosophical debate if pointless unless participants accept the same axioms. A philosophical theory (like a mathematical theorem) is part of truth when no logical mistake was found (by experts) in its justification. Philosop...

Re: Fundamentally significant questions
kowalskil, I agree, "truth" must be able to be reproduced. In Philosophy though, there is no lab except that created by comprehensive definitions that must be universal. Else, everyone has their own lab in the form of different Schools of Philosophy or Isms with the only purpose to suppor...

Re: Fundamentally significant questions
Kowalskil, Thanks for the definition; I believe you might be the only participant to summit one. Let me modify what I mean by comprehensive, I didn't realize this was what I meant to say but failed to do so until just reading it again. A comprehensive definition of “truth” reveals explicitly how a ...

Re: Fundamentally significant questions
James, My questions: 1- What is a comprehensive definition of “truth”? 2- What is a comprehensive definition of “reality”? What I mean by comprehensive is a definition that reveals the difference between “truth” and “non-truth”. And the difference between “reality” and “fantasy”. Wayne Kelly Legget...

Is the adjective "personal" in "personal existence" defining or non-defining (= a mere additional attribute) ? In other words: do we have two sub-wholes of existence in the whole of existence ? Personal existence and impersonal existence. ... I use the terms "objective phys...
