Re: The American "Values" of Aesthetics

Yes, except that even governments are pawns just a tool of a hidden elite. I never used to think this could be the case, but as I experience and see more of what's happened and is happening in the world. I am increasingly comming to the conclusion that a plan of taking control and power by an elite ...

Re: rome

Ok, in that case Napoleon is a historical hero as he took away much of the power of the Catholic Church and the then royal families of Europe. This in turn allowing our society to move forward and free from dogma. I would hate to think where we would be if Napoleon did not change the European politi...

Re: rome

Are you saying that the new Roman Empire with a Pope as it's head had very little to do with the power plays in the region and restricting the advancement of knowledge for hundreds of years.

Re: rome

If Rome never became consumed by Christianity. By now we could have a truly democratic society, the planets natural environment would still be intact, there would have been less wars and we would be more advanced both socially and scientifically. With historians and philosophers lamenting about what...

Re: The American "Values" of Aesthetics

Over the last few generations here in Australia this same ideology has been creeping in. To the point that our own culture is vanishing and becoming more like the 53 state of USA. The direction seems to be that selling something whether a product, ideas or even ones self is the number one priority a...

Re: Does God Exist?

Suppose God does exist. Then what? Then nothing, as far as I can tell. Everything else is unchanged. Life goes on as before. There is no substantive, verifiable, credible evidence that God intervenes physically in this world. God may not be dead, but proof of God's existence leads to a dead end. Ye...

Re: Fundamentally significant questions

I'm only asking because this might have something to do with some of the negative comments you are receiving. Both my parents are German and have been living in an English speaking country for more than 50 years. But they still try to structure sentences like in German. When you do this it can some...

Re: Fundamentally significant questions

One example is in your last sentence were you used the word "truth" in relation to science. No scientist would use the word "truth" and if he did then it would be thought that he considers himself a God. In place of "truth" he or she might say " my observations sho...

Re: Fundamentally significant questions

ADHD here in Oz is massively misdiagnosed if you sneeze you can be deemed so. Then it's all about treating the symptoms with medication and very little thought to developing coping mechanisms.

Er, it's fallacy. You are getting mixed up with something else. Best you get it right. Ludwik, welcome. Word of warning: don't engage HexHammer. He is highly disruptive on this forum. I defeat you with logic and reason, and you call me disruptive. Just because I burst your silly fairytale bubbles a...

Re: Round Table Debate: Science versus Philosophy?

Given the success of science, do we really need philosophy? Four distinguished scientists and philosophers and about 170 members of the public gathered in a London bookstore to hammer out the issues. This robust and good-humoured Round Table was the second in the series held by Philosophy Now and P...
