Re: Theistic god logically disproved - Problem of Evil FINIS

Just wondering, but this is really a very extensive research project you have created for yourself here and I would probably not try to dig into (non-existent) encyclopedic type of knowledge over here but research it on- line first. That way you could also buttress your arguments if you needed to. T...

Re: Is religion guilty of moving the goalposts?

It could be said that Muslims are where Christians were a few hundred years ago during the inquisitions. I mean Islam is a few hundred years younger, evolution happens over time sometimes involves backward steps as far as morality is concerned. Who knows where the Arab Spring is going to take them,...

Re: The problem is human nature not religion

As I said before I am not disagreeing that Divine Law and Natural Law are consistent, but if they are not co-extensive then they cannot be one and the same. That is pretty much the point I am making. They do not have to be co-extensive. Since natural law is a subset of divine law they are the same ...

Re: The problem is human nature not religion

. Oh! And "Thou Shalt Not Murder" is a convenient reversion to Judaism, so "Thou Shalt Not Kill" out the window now. QMan will like that as it looks like he quite fancies a conflict with Islam. Do you think he ever wonders why Islam is becoming so popular with the poor and downt...

Re: Choice or Determinism

The argument has become bogged down in the merits or lack thereof of materialism, so I will rephrase the question that no one yet addressed: if scientific determinism holds, as in Newtonian physics, then if one decides to believe in free will does that make he/she a compatibilist? If scientific det...

Re: The problem is human nature not religion

I don't blame anyone on this forum for ignorance. It is when they try to make these grand sweeping historical statements, that I demand the person have some modicum of reading in history. You don't have that. I don't even know why I'm wasting my time responding to the nonsense and falsehoods you po...

Re: Nothing matters when you're DEAD

Oops, sorry, I stumbled into the wrong room. My mistake. This is where the dead bury the dead, yes?
So, I better get out of here into the next room to celebrate life with the living.

Re: The problem is human nature not religion

Kuznetzova, you are still dodging the issue. Let me reiterate it. If Mao were a Buddhist (don't care if he was, I am trying to make a point) then I would hear solid condemnation from you and the atheist camp if I claimed that, because of people like him, Buddhism is responsible for all atrocities i...

Re: Moral Manipulation & the Problem of Evil

Want to show that one can get quantitative about God and his influence in the world because he has promised benefits to those who leave a door open to a relationship with him. By definition benefits are extended to our material world as well and therefore MUST be quantifiable. One such quantity sho...

Re: The problem is human nature not religion

I do accuse you of intellectual dishonesty then because you find it necessary to put up a straw man. It is clear from my append that I am referring to religion as a benevolent system not only Christian religion, even though that is my background. You also, like most atheists in this forum (correct ...

QMan, Right. Just ignore the entire THREAD and all the material in this THREAD. IN CASE YOU FORGOT, this is the Political Philosophy section of a philosophy website. This is not a bible study on the theological mythemes of Hell in the Christian Religion. The original poster was talking about justic...

Re: The problem is human nature not religion

I deny it. The role that you want to describe is not played by religion it is always only and exclusively played by human beings. Religion (I do not include cults in that) is generally a moral and benevolent belief system that was and is often ignored by many, in the middle ages as well as now. So,...

Re: The problem is human nature not religion

The 30 Years War was one of the worst, bloodiest civil wars ever seen in Germany, or ever seen in Europe, full stop, since about the time of the Roman Empire. There is not an encyclopedia in print today that does not just plainly state it was a religious war. The Protestant Reformation caused all o...
