Monty Python's Meaning of Life is a good one.

Books

Does anyone know of any good books on Epistemology? I've never read or really studied it before. Thanks!

Yes. I completely agree that these people are ignorant and selfish. It really blows my mind of some people's stupidity.

Re: Can you lie to yourself?

I think that this is very true. People do tend to try and belong with others, so they try and justify their actions.

Re: What does silence mean?

Why would silence be a mistake? It is defined as the abscence of noise. I think we need more of it in the world honestly. I have noise-cancelling headphones which are great. Although they still do make a kind of sound, so there is not exactly silence when I wear them.

Re: Can you lie to yourself?

I think that you can lie to yourself, in a way. If you can't rationalize why you are doing something, then that is a kind of lie to yourself.

Re: What makes its presence felt more by it's absence?

I think that the saying you don't know what you have until it's gone is true. It just seems like people don't think that what you have could be gone some day, whether it be people in their lives or something else.

Re: Terrorism poses no 'existential' threat?

I think that terrorism would be an existential threat. As someone else said, war is like a protest movement- countries enter a war sometimes to protest things that have threatened their way of life.

Re: Should dogs have the same rights as humans?

I don't think dogs should have all the same rights as humans, but they do deserve to be treated well. I do think that some of how a dog behaves is due to it's training and upbringing, so it is reflective of the owner.

Re: Things are defined by what they are, not what they are not.

I think that things can be defined both by what they are and what they are not- like in that example. Those definitions are all true.

Re: Analyzing energy levels

It's interesting that you say not doing much is where philosophy probably comes from. I suppose that is true. Thoughts can come to you more easily sometimes when you aren't really thinking about any certain thing.
