We all know that belief in a fad diet can be a matter of "faith" - but from there, how do we make the leap that "science becomes a faith?"
Science is evidence-based. "Faith" is a firm belief which is held in the absence of scientific evidence.

The lifetime of a Higgs particle is about 10^-22 seconds, or a tenth of trillionth of a billionth of a seconds." /page 177, by Frank Wilczek/ Higgs bosons are unstable particles and therefore cannot be fundamental particles. So far this is only certainly known to be true for the isolated parti...

In the end, I'm afraid, the answer will conform to the criterion articulated by the pre-socratic geometers: define "life", and "non-life", and the question will answer itself.

In all fairness, Dattaswami (for once) raises an interesting point in the philosophy of religion: Is "God" a populist? Does she/he perform conjuring tricks to impress the multitude? According to the New Testament, with its never-ending succession of miracle cures, and feeding of multitudes...

Re: Is it possible to define a measure of how interesting is a given mathematical theory?
The question is vague. What is meant by "interest"? Of couse, all academics understand that at some periods of time, some issues are more fahionable than others. It is particularly important to remember this when you are looking for research funding! So that is one measure you could use. O...

MOND vs Dark Matter
For those of us who are not scientists by training, indeed have no scientific aptitude whatsoever, but who have a passionate interest in scientific questions, I'd like to post this question. Some proponents of MOND theory have claimed that it can explain the present state of the universe, and form a...

Now Chelsea, do you really work for NASA? Be honest. And try to crystallise your thoughts into a coherent question. Intellectually, you're all over the place.
