Re: Zero divided by zero revisited
'you' can NOT divide by zero. You forgot to provide supporting arguments, as required by the rules of this forum. If you can provide such arguments, I will reply. One only has to look at a computer or calculator to come to see and understand that 'you' can NOT divide by zero. However, and of course...

Re: Zero divided by zero revisited
All four positions can be supported by respectable mathematical arguments. What's your preference? All of them. Depending on the context. Depending on what the / operator means; and depending on what 0/0 is supposed to represent/denote. Manipulating and evaluating mathematical objects/expressions i...

Re: Zero divided by zero revisited
A recent post on this question quickly descended into levity. However, it is a genuine philosophical problem in arithmetic, so let's try again, shall we? There are four possible answers: 0/0 = 0 (based on the intuitive supposition that only zero quantities are involved, so there cannot be a non-zer...

Re: Zero divided by zero revisited
Nothing divided by nothing, sounds philosophical to you, not to me. Or can you somehow justify that 0 is not a nothing? No one does anything with 0, because there is no need. It is nothing more than an empty mind-bending out of boredom that has no practical application. About the same as trying to ...

Strewth! There's a bloke in my pub who looks just like Putin. Says he's a cotton farmer from Birdsville. Reckon he's telling the truth?

Re: Are Physical Quantities Additive?
This is scientific philosophy as it should be! My own instinctive response to the initial post was that it did not differentiate the Newtonian and the Relativistic in a sufficiently rigorous way, but the first response expresses the point more succinctly than ever I could have.

How dare you question my existence? Only last Saturday, 30 or 40 witnesses saw me playing the banjo at my local pub. Now, if you will excuse me, I must go and practice my cello scales.

How long does it take God to urinate?
When you or I unrinate, it sometimes seem to take an unconscionably long time, especially if we have had a glass or two, and - can you be sure that the last squirt was really the final squirt? But God exists eternally, outside of time. If we suppose that God urinates - which is a possibility, consid...

I didn't mean your question, commonsenseplus, which is actually the same as my question. I meant the question which prompted the original post.

Re: The Sweet Spot.
You have not articulated a clear philosophical question, so we must assume you are asking, do we agree with Maeterlinck? He may be right, of course. But human goals, and human interations, are far more complex than those entailed in the mere production of honey; and I would imagine that any alien ci...
